Yeah, this incident started out a member of the public on a High street [69 High St/Newman Rd], seeing two young men walking down the street and one appeared to have a gun tucked in the waist band in their trousers. They made a 999 call and armed officers were arriving at that scene within the matter of minutes, they identified themselves as armed officers, the one lad at this point, I think he panicked really, he produced what’s inside his coat what turned out to be a toy gun. The officers saw the gun come out. And the officers describes a – he drew his gun and if he had squeezed his trigger, saw the hammer coming back, he knew if he squeezed just a little 2 to 3 millimeters he’d be shooting this person in the chest.

This person later turned out to be a 16 year old lad with a toy gun. If you go out on the streets with anything that can convey mistaken or perceived as a gun basically then it’s classed as being as possession of a firearm in a public place so it’s only down to the professionalism and training of the officers and experience the officers involved that the incident was dealt with in the way it was, you know. But obviously it could of been a lot more serious.
