Now remember speakers the opponent may interrupt the speaker to offer a point of information or P.O.I. Each team has a P.O.I bank of 1 1/2 minutes, the speaker must accept all points of information but must not be interrupted in the last 30 seconds. If you’re ready Diyanah, you have four minutes. You may begin.

As a first speaker of the proposition team, I will begin the debate by defining the notion that the internet has brought more harm than good to today’s youth. I will then lay out the foundation of our teams argument.
Generally speaking the internet is vast computer at work using the same – linking smaller competent notes together – sorry – using the same set of communication protocol. Harm is physical, mental and moral damage while good is something that brings benefit or gain. Now youth are those between childhood and maturity and most countries define them as between the ages of 13 and 24. The internet was introduced in 1999 and has since then become a part of society. Some of it’s common uses among others are emailing, accessing the world wide web, file sharing and media streaming. It is a powerful tool that is deceptively simple, easily accessible and has no boundaries what so ever. It enables you to have almost literally a world of information at your finger tips, with little or in most cases, ineffective censorship. Now you may say that this what makes the Internet good. But the reality is that not only does it make the internet harmful but it also to a certain extent makes the internet destructive. For instance, at a single click of the mouse; you can easily learn how to make a bomb, discover the least painful way to kill yourself, or may encourage not to eat that calorie infested muffin because it would look better with your distinctive thin thighs. Yes ma’am.
[Kriti Agarwal]
But these harms are minimal and not many people actually go and click and have bombs.
[Siti Nur Diyanah Hardy]
Actually these stories – Actually these websites are easily accessible and are devastatingly popular amongst students. For example, Live Journal Dot Com back slash Proanorexia which is the worlds largest Proanorexia website. It has a 24 hour posting service and as of October last year up to 1 million posts, you understand. This website is encouraging youth to die. If that isn’t horrible Kriti, I don’t know what is. Now what is about us youth that makes us so vulnerable to all this harm? Is has been scientifically proven that the frontal lobes youths’ brain which is the part of the brain that helps you make decisions is not as fully developed as that of adults. So what this means, it that the average Youth like you and I. Lack emotional maturity and are unable to – are less capable of making wholly logical decisions. Yes, ma’am.

Don’t you agree Youth can be educated further knowledge about how to make the right decisions?
[Siti Nur Diyanah Hardy]
If that is so, why is it that 11 million teens watching pornography regularly? We are curious beings looking for a sense of purpose and entity in life which is exactly what makes us so vulnerable to the exploitation and negativity found on the internet.
Kriti, it is the very nature of Youth that lacks the innocence of children and the wisdom of adults the further maximizes the harm of the internet. Mostly how I will elaborate on this and we’ll show you how the hearts on the internet have been infected by this Youth and also by Youth.
And the current state of the world we are living in, isn’t really helpful either.
This issue I address, frightening a place we live in where media and information reigns supreme and the Youth – Youth are attracted to the internet like Singaporeans are attracted to free-bees. Yes, ma’am.
[Kriti Agarwal]
This is – this is not the Youths problem, it is societies problem of how they are contributing to the Youth’s education.
[Siti Nur Diyanah Hardy]
Of course it is the Youth’s problem cause they are the ones facing all the harm. We are not trying to – we are not trying to put the blame on Youths here. If you are saying that the internet is harmless, because it is the Youth’s fault, they are you also saying that drugs are harmless, that [ ] is harmless. Is that true? I don’t think so. Now, you will come [ ] only our offline crime such as pornography, child pornography and gambling which is to happen offline and now happening online, as well. New crimes like hacking are being invented.
In fact, [ ] these people and outside you’ll find various stores of online abuses, a teenager being perpetrated by someone she just met in an online chat room.
Even [ ] to put it unto the public in staggering numbers, you know we’ll elaborate on this further and we’re gonna wrap up our speech. Yes.
[Kriti Agarwal]
We just hear some sensational stories that a Reality star blow(s) up, we never hear about the benefits of the internet.
[Siti Nur Diyanah Hardy]
Exactly, because [ [ there are so few, that no one really talks about them.
[Kriti Agarwal]
How?
[Siti Nur Diyanah Hardy]
We are not saying that the internet is all harm and nothing else, we understand that, yes the internet does bring us some good because in life nothing is obsolete, but we are seeing whatever however, is that, not only does the internet bring more harm than good, Mrs. Maarif, it brings up more fire reaching, more long lasting and more penetrative to Youth, that’s why this motion must stand. Thank you.
