Gretchen Smith Voice For Veterans With Honor Founder Code Of Vets
I want to get more involved with veteran funerals. We have a strong social media presence. Let’s use it to ask our community to show up, assist with funeral costs and to speak when no one is there to say anything.
Our brother had 7 people at his memorial.https://t.co/O3icC9L9nb

Fifteen minutes to get here because of traffic and just construction.
But anyway, it was really sad. You know, I walked in and there were seven – there were seven of us there. No one there to speak, nobody said anything. Not a word was said for Billy. And it breaks my heart.
Just imagine how many veterans are out there that are dying every day. And nobody says a word at their memorial. It’s so sad.
But I wanted to get down here and share that with you. And I didn’t want to cry in front of people I didn’t know. But I just want to share my heart with my veteran community. To let you know that we need to do better.
Not one person said anything. It was absolutely quiet. It was very respectful.
There were two military personnel there that did present the flags, holding the flag. It was a beautiful little presentation, but nobody said a word for Billy. And I did ask once the funeral director had said there was nothing else if I could do just a brief live stream? And that’s the only thing that was done to honor his service and life.
And I just wanted you guys to share that because we need to grow our platform to an enormous level to make sure that when our brothers and sisters in arms pass away, that they are honored with dignity and respect. And we are on a mission to do that. We’re going to do that. I have faith in what we’re doing. And I just want Billy to know that he mattered. It’s why I came. I didn’t know him, but I loved him, he was a brother in arms and he served in the army like my dad did. And he deserved better than this.

Billy – every memorial that I attend, I’m going to make sure that somebody says something because you matter. And I’m going to carry you in my heart forever. I’m very sorry that I’m upset, but this was just heartbreaking to come, to know that nobody had prepared anything and he didn’t have family. He didn’t have family, so we’re his family. So I want each of one of you to get on here and say goodbye to Billy because he will see it. He is in heaven now. And I want him to have a beautiful farewell from us because he is worthy, he deserves it.
Oh my gosh! We’ve got so much work to do. So I’m going to be meeting with a lady at the funeral home who does a lot of these unclaimed veterans, who doesn’t have family and really she said there are many times she charges $700 for veterans, little memorials.
And I want us to make a commitment to try and come up with this $7 – $700 when there is no family or the family can’t. I feel like that’s the least we can do. I told her we would do that. And I also told her that I would come and speak when nobody was there to say anything. And it would be such an honor to do that.
But as we grow, I want us to make sure that we take care of our veterans throughout the nation who have passed away.
I want them to be able to be buried with dignity.
And we can do that.
We can take care of each other in that way.
So God bless you.
Please share this. We’ve got to do a better job with honoring our veterans in our country because I’m just – we don’t have a choice. We don’t have a choice.
We have to step up and do it.
And our nation needs to step up with us because without the ones who have served and put on that uniform, we would not have the freedoms we have. We would not have our nation at all.
Our military community, our veteran community is the backbone of our nation. We are the heartbeat.
And I’m so proud to be part of this community in such a small way.
But we are on a mission. We are going to take care of our beautiful brothers and sisters in arms.
We’re taking care of our one veteran at a time.
