The stigma surrounding the sex work industry creates a dangerous environment for those that choose to do what exactly what sex work is – work.
The stigma can at worst can be fatally dangerous as sex-workers are far more likely to be murdered than the rest of the population.
Part of the stigmatization is the idea that all sex-workers are trafficking victims because a women who is able to make her own decisions would never chose to be in the sex-industry right?
As someone who interacts with some of the most intelligent sex-workers in the world, I can tell you this is simply not true.
It is important to point out that sex-workers who are transgender women of color, are at an even higher risk of being murdered due to transphobia and racism.
We all have a responsiblity to stop this violence. That means if you see a person being harrassed, we all have an obligation to speak up and do something.
It shouldn’t matter if a person does sex-work for the money or just for the fun.
If they chose sex-work they deserve to be considered a worker and not be stigmatized for what they do.

Due to the large increase in the popularity of clip and cam sites – the average sex-worker is now much less likely to be pushed to the edges of society.
The odds that you know a person who has done sex-work is higher than ever.
We are your neighbor, we are your Uber driver, we are your best friend who is afraid to tell you about that one summer that we striped because of how you might react.
We are many more than you will ever realize and we deserve respect.
I challenge anyone who considers themselves a voice for the voiceless to speak up and join the We Are Many Movement.
Be a part of something that can be a safer place for sex-workers – you’d be surprised what your support can help accomplish.
