Empires come and go. Nation-states fail. So this experiment are we – is this experiment waxing? Are we still growing as the beacon of hope for the rest of the world? I still believe that in my heart but I know that there is a dimension of our experiment that is sort of in our face right now. And the American public have to decide again.

We the people, the American public, have to decide what it is that they want.

And uh… because we will not last forever.

You know, as we get through this election, particularly this election which is a crucible moment in our history, unprecedented. Never happened before. And it’s an embarrassment to me as an American citizen, nevermind somebody who served in our highest levels of our government, to the rest of the world because of what we have done for others around the world, and we can’t even get our own damn elections correct.

But moving forward, we have to have a reconciliation between the government and we the people, the people of this country.

The American people give us everything when you’re talking about government.

We don’t exist without the American people.

We have to remind ourselves that we work for the American people.

We don’t work for the institution, and that idea, to me, has been lost.
