OVER KILLING
This video was taken inside a USDA inspected slaughterhouse that supplies Hormel.
HORRORS AT HORMEL:

HORMEL CENTURY PARKWAY
With faster line speeds than almost any other facility in the U.S., approximately 1,300 pigs are killed each hour. By law pigs must be rendered insensible to pain before having their throats slit.
However, this doesn’t always happen at quality pork processors, either from human error or from intentional cruelty as one worker admitted.
“That one was definitely alive.”
This pig arching her back and lifting her head is attempting to right herself, which is a sign she may be conscious. Pigs who regain sensibility on the slaughter line are sometimes even scalded alive.

This slaughter plant is one of five facilities in the U.S. operating under a USDA approved pilot program that allows for high-speed slaughter and reduced government oversight. The excessive speed not only jeopardizes food safety for consumers, but also forces workers to take inhumane shortcuts that lead to extreme suffering for millions of pigs.
As a result, these smart social animals are beaten, shocked, dragged and improperly stunned, all out of view of government inspectors. This high-speed reduced oversight slaughter program essentially allows the profit-driven pork industry to police itself resulting in devastating consequences for animals, workers and consumers. Despite this, the USDA may roll it out nationwide.
If USDA is around, they could shut us down.
One facility supervisor responsible for overseeing the stunning of animals was caught sleeping on the job; other supervisors were caught cheering as a pig was improperly stunned; and drenching paper towels in pigs’ blood to throw it at other workers.

Animals who are too sick or injured to walk known as downers, often endure more egregious abuses on the kill floor. They also present heightened risks to food safety.
However, lacks inspections result in many downers being slaughtered for food.
Our investigator routinely saw sick and injured animals forced through the slaughter system to be turned into spam and other pork products for Hormel.
Our footage also shows numerous potential food safety issues such as animals with prolapsed organs being processed for food, as well as countless pig carcasses riddled with pus filled abscesses and covered in feces.
Sadly animal abuse is standard practice throughout the entire meat industry. Each of us can stand up for pigs and all animals by leaving them off our plates.
