There were a lot of people out there who say that bisexuality doesn’t exist, which is of course absurd and ridiculous because there are many, many, many bisexual people out there. I’ve got tons of bisexual friends. Bisexuality is definitely a real genuine legitimate thing, but people continue to question its existence and they continue to question people who say that they’re bisexual. For me bisexuality has kind of always been seen this way.
For as long as I can remember, I can remember people talking about bisexual people almost as if their sexuality wasn’t legitimate.
Like – I remember like 15 years ago or something, there was this episode of Friends where Phoebe was singing this song and it was just this funny harmless song about sexuality. And in that song she said something like bisexual people are just kidding themselves and it was a punch line in the show and it was just supposed to be funny, but like I really think that kind of represents the way people thought back then and kind of the way that people still think about bisexuality now.
I think what makes this problem really unique is that the people being biphobic and saying that bisexuality doesn’t exist aren’t always straight people, it’s often gay people that are saying this too.
I got even begin to tell you the amount of times I’ve been talking to like another gay guy or something and they’ll start talking about a bisexual person and they’ll say, oh, ‘you know, he says he’s boy, but he’s not really, he’s just gay and he’s just still figuring himself out’. ‘He’s still confused’ or they’ll say that ‘that guy is not boy’, ‘he is just a straight guy looking for attention’.
And we kind of always seem to talk about bisexual people in this way and it’s really not fair and I really don’t understand where that’s coming from.
There have been times in my life where somebody has come out as bisexual to me, they’ve told me they’re bisexual and there’s been a little voice in the back of my head that has been going that person’s not bisexual. Pppfff… That’s not true. That’s just a straight person looking for attention or they’re clearly just gay and they’re too scared to come out. And I’ve had this little voice in the back of my head, but I’ve worked really hard to silence that voice and to ignore that voice because if somebody is telling you that they are bisexual, then you owe it to that person to just believe them – it isn’t up to you to decide whether or not that person is telling the truth or whether or not that person is confused, because that person probably genuinely is bisexual. And if they’re not, then they’re clearly going through a rough time trying to figure out their sexuality.
So don’t – do not judge that person.
If that person says that they’re bisexual, just believe them.
Just take it for face value.
The thing I always say to people, is that you’ve got to remember that it is the LGBT plus community and there’s a ‘B’ in there for a reason because bisexuality is a legitimate proven sexuality.
You know, people still dispute whether or not it’s real, whether or not it exists, but it absolutely does exist. It’s a real thing and people stop need to debating that. It’s fact. Bisexuals exist.
So yeah, I just really, really wanted to make this little video to celebrate bi-visibility day. It is bi-visibility day today.
And I really just wanted to help to add my voice to the conversation about bisexuality because I just really, really want to help get the message out there that bisexuality is in fact real, and I cannot believe this is still a debate we’re having in 2016, but apparently we are.

So yes, bisexuality exists. Stop questioning it.
So yeah, as it is bi-visibility day, I shouldn’t really be making this about myself, which I tend to do often.
So I really, really want to recommend some bisexual YouTubers to you guys.
So I’m going to recommend three of my absolute favorites.
They’re Melanie Murphy, Connor Manning, and Courtney Jai and they all make incredible content around being bisexual and they’re all bisexual in very different ways as well. So I think it’s really interesting to hear all of their unique perspectives on their own bisexuality.
So I’m going to put some links down in the description below, so please do go and check those out.
