Bernie Sanders Speech What I Said In 1990
What I said in 1990 is true today: there is no reason why the United States of America, the wealthiest country in the history of the world, cannot make health care a right. All it takes is the political will. pic.twitter.com/kbXQPwZSTg

I’m an old square guy who talks about issues. It’s the same themes that I’ve been talking about for many, many months.
a walk down bernie lane
I’m running for president because the time is long overdue for the United States to join every other major country on earth and guarantee health care to all people as a right, not a privilege, through a Medicare-for-All single-payer program.
We’ve got to get the insurance companies and their greed and their profiteering out of health care.
A single-payer, national health care program is far more cost-effective than the chaotic, wasteful program that we have right now.
It is not too much to ask that in the United States of America, we join the rest of the industrialized world and provide health care to every man, woman, and child as a right of citizenship.
I’ve taken a leadership role in trying to establish a universal health care system based on the single-payer approach.
The medical industrial complex are spending tens of millions of dollars trying to bribe Congress into inaction on health care in order to preserve their profits
One third one third of all Americans lack adequate medical insurance.
The present health care system is a disaster. It’s precipitating. And we don’t need Band-Aid solutions. We’ve got to do what virtually every industrialized country in the world does, and that is to say, “Health care is not just a privileges for the wealthy. It is a right for every man, woman, and children.”
The cost of health care is zooming up. Our system is falling apart.
You all understand that it is not going to be Bernie Sanders or any other member of Congress that’s going to bring about the change that we need. That what we need in this country is a mass movement of tens of millions of people who are prepared to stand up and say, “We want national health care!” [cheers]
I believe in a health care system that guarantees health care to all people in a cost-effective way which is what Medicare for All is.
join the movement.
