[Kendrick Kang-Joh “Ken” Jeong, M.D. (Korean: 정강조 Jeong Kang-jo, born July 13, 1969):]
My wife was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer about a year after our twin daughters were born.
It was a stage 3 and it was just getting rapidly bigger. Yeah. it was devastating.
I remember getting offered the part of The Hangover and I remember at that time, not wanted to do it, Tran and I (you know) talked about it and Tran said you’re actually undergoing caregiver burnout now, I think it could be therapeutic if you just did it.
I was just lashing out at all the demons, you know, in my personal life.
You’re going to fuck on me?
Because I’m a comedic actor it definitely came out more as Mr. Chow comedic rage, but deep down inside, I was just – I was really angry, yeah, but it was also just to make my wife laugh.

Tran and I definitely believe in a lighter perspective on life, and to see it through many different lenses is important, even while Tran was going through chemo and surgery and radiation, I mean, we would make jokes and even very dark jokes, you know, just to keep this going. It was therapeutic for both of us. Few years ago, Tran had hit the two year mark of being cancer free. This could consider to be in complete remission.
MTV MOVIE AWARDS
And I remember The MTV Movie Awards, we’re really celebrating that.
[Presenter (MTV Awards):]
And the winner is Ken Jeong for The Hangover.
And then you know probably the weirdest acceptance speech on MTV Award show came out.
Thank you so much. Me and my penis would love to thank MTV and the voters. Thank you so much. And more importantly than this, I want to take the opportunity to thank my wife Tran, Todd and Bradley Cooper, a good friend of mine, actually helped me through difficult time when my wife Tran was going through breast cancer treatment and the reason why I did this, she taught me that life is short and then don’t be afraid to take chances and I just want to tell you that Tran is cancer free for two-years! I love you and Toodaloo Mother [beep]!

All that stress just kind of came out in that moment, but uh… it’s all about Tran, she is the one who went through the hardship. Not me, she is the one who truly suffered. I [think] just for her to – I don’t know, just even now to come out of it, so healthy and so not jaded – you know – it – it’s inspiring to me.
