Inside this house lives a man with an extraordinary story to tell. 48 year old Paul Mason hasn’t left his home in over two years. He is confined to his bed by his shocking obesity.

[Paul Mason]
When I look at my body I hate it, if you see yourself in the mirror, you see another person not yourself.

[Commentator]
Its estimated that Paul weighs close to 1000 pounds. His life could end at any moment. But he still can’t control his addiction to food.

[Paul Mason]
Food is absolutely devastating in my life.

[Commentator]
Time is running out for Paul unless obesity surgeon Dr. Shaw Summers can save him.

[Dr. Shaw Somers]
Paul’s body index is off the scale. If we leave him as he is, he will basically linger until such time that one of his organs will give up and he will die.

[Commentator]
But will Paul gamble his life on an operation to save it?

[Dr. Shaw Somers]
If I was to tell you that potentially, the risk may be 50/50 you might might not pull through. How do you feel about that?

[Paul Mason]
(cries)

[Commentator]
This is the story about the battle to save the worlds fattest man.

wow, what always surprises me is the compassion that doctors show these types of patients.
It also amazes me, how people let themselves get into such a state, and obviously their care givers just help them stay there.

Where do they get the money to
get so much food
get so much help
and not work

that baffles me too

hope your show helps people, not get to this states of ill health

LYBIO.NET THANK YOU FOR THE COMMENT

This was amazing to me… I saw the report on TLC and the caregivers appear to take great care of Paul. It is hard for me to understand how people let themselves get in such a state; but it happens and we go from there. I guess if it’s an addition, it’s like any other addition such as drugs; you can’t stop. I believe it becomes an imbalance in the brain and from that point, you’re an addict…regardless of what you’re an addicted too. I wish people could get help before they get to the point of morbit obesity and their life is in danger.
