This is big, ya, this is something I was thinking as I was driving in today that this would make the boss proud. Ya, this – Yankees obviously are about always trying to acquire the best talent and a collection of talent that can compete for a championship, but he also liked a lot of attention, and this certainly represents a lot of attention. So, this is Yankee big this is Steinbrenner big, and uh, we are really excited to welcome the newest Yankee officially to the family and welcome to New York, Tanaka son.
We scouted him extensively, we send scouts over, I know you’ve heard the story, but we met earlier in the season before last year started about how we would go about assessing the potential availability of Masahiro Tanaka, and we had scouts at every home game. Our scouting went back all the way – back through ’07, but this year was obviously even more extensive, and we’ve put ourselves in a position to evaluate the talent and then thankfully to the Steinbrenner family. They put the Yankees in a position to bring him to Major League Baseball to test those abilities and be part of a group of players and team mates that will hopefully make this town proud for the next number of years.
With that I’d like to bring Joe Girardi up. I think Joe would like to officially introduce the jersey and hat to our new player.

Thanks – thanks, Brian. As we sat down this winter after the season, we knew that we had to address a lot of areas and for me personally, I believe it always starts with pitching and you can score a lot of runs, but if you don’t have pitching, you’re going to have a hard time winning on a consistent basis and we knew that we had to address our rotation.
Our scouts have been going to Japan for many, many years. They went over numerous times this year to watch Masahiro. And he was the player that we coveted. And I am thankful as a Manager that Alan and his family open their pocket books for us to sign Masahiro and add a very important piece of the puzzle to us getting back to where we want to be in the World Series.
He is a great pitcher and he obviously is here with us for a long time and we’re very, very excited. So Masahiro I would like to call you up and give your hat and your jersey and officially welcome you as the newest Yankee.
Now, we’ll see Joe Girardi again with Tanaka putting on the pinstripes, he will wear number 19 as we now Japanese pitchers prefer the number 18, it denotes the ace of the staff in the Japanese professional baseball leagues, but that number worn by Hiroki Kuroda, so Tanaka went up a number to 19.

And Joe, can we take pictures right here together, just for a second.
Again we are at the Legends Suite Club press conference from Masahiro Tanaka, Joe Girardi and Brian Cashman have already spoken and we will get a chance to hear from the newest Yankee, Masahiro Tanaka in just a moment. Now he’s got to go through the photo apps once he puts on the hat and pinstripes.
Ladies and gentlemen, Masahiro Tanaka.
