Daniela Bobadilla, plays Charlie Sheen’s daughter on FX’s ‘Anger Management’ and she is right here in studio with us, hi there.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Hi, how are you.
Welcome.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Thank you.
Let me start off by saying, happy belated birthday.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Thank you.
You just had a birthday –
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Thank you – thank you.
like a week ago.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
I did. Ya, exactly a week today.
And what did you do to celebrate? Anything fun?
[Daniela Bobadilla]
I was working.
Uh, that’s it.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
I had a 14 hour day.
That’s a Hollywood lady.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Oh, exactly, right. I know, but, I had a birthday blow out. Cause they blow out my hair (ah ha) (ah ha)
Oh you did.
[Daniela Bobadilla] Source: LYBIO.net
Ya. That failed.
(laughs)
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Um, no it was really fun. They had a cake for me. Everyone sung happy birthday The writers some how wrote it in the script that it was my birthday.
Oh, that’s sweet.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Ya, so I got to hold a birthday cupcake.
Art imitating life, right.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
And it was so much fun.
Here on the set.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Exactly. Exactly.
Very fun, now it’s almost been a hour, it’s pretty been – been a year –
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Ya
To audition – started the whole process for Anger Management.
[Daniela Bobadilla] Source: LYBIO.net
Uh huh.
What do you look back on? What has this last year been like for you? You must look back and think – Whoa! Did all this just happen?
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Ya! Oh ya! It’s completely mind blowing. I remember the date exactly cause it was right before Valentine’s Day
Oh, a little Valentines gift for you.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Oh Exactly! I found out literally that night after doing it, so, as Valentine’s rolled around this year, I kind of reflected on everything. It’s – as each date came, I celebrated my birthday on the set last year. So just seeing
Wow – full circle moment for you.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Exactly, just getting to see like how my year was punctuated by the show, it blows my mind, everything, it’s completely different, I had a different car, like, everything like my car – my car literally broke down this time last year.
Really!
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Ya.
So you were at the end of everything.
[Daniela Bobadilla] Source: LYBIO.net
Oh ya.
Funds were low.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Kind of.
And you move on.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Ya, but I was living the low life and I thought it was amazing and now to look back and see what I’m doing now.
And now, how did I do that?
[Daniela Bobadilla]
And like, and ya! How was I happy back then but – I – I don’t know.
It’s – things don’t make you happy, right?
[Daniela Bobadilla] Source: LYBIO.net
Exactly.
That’s what you learned.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Exactly and –
Basically.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
I love – I love it. So, so thankful.
Very good. And then – and then the show went on. Initially, it had only 10 episodes, picked up. And then, you have this huge buy of 90 plus episodes – like.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
YA.
That doesn’t even happen in TV.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
No – no – it doesn’t even make sense.
Was everyone just shocked?
[Daniela Bobadilla] Source: LYBIO.net
No, everyone kind of knew it was coming. For me, I was just playing it day by day, so I knew the 90 was possible but it made no sense in my head, it never settled in.
Why would they do this? It’s such a big number.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Ya, well no. I just thought, if it comes, it comes, but I never thought past that. So when it came, it’s just like: Whoa! 2 years, 90 episodes, 90 story lines, like, 90 new craft(less) scripts. Oh my goodness.
It’s really smart.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Oh ya.
It’s really smart, to just lay low and let it happen.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Ya, ya ya ya – it’s when you get the most excited, everyone’s already freakin’ out, and you’re like; oh my gosh, it’s starting to settle in. What just happened?
How did this all just happen?! So I saw an episode where Charlie Sheen, he plays your father. And Martin Sheen who is Charlie’s dad
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Ummm.
Plays your grandfather.
[Daniela Bobadilla] Source: LYBIO.net
Uh hm.
And Martin, kidnaps you to go get you baptized.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Yes
And at some point your between Martin and Charlie in church in the pew there.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Yes.
And Martin leans over to you and says: If you have any questions, ask me.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Uh huh.
And there you are really – in real life, sitting with movie stars, huge TV star
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Uh huh
Do you go to them for advice? Do you ever ask them: Hey, what should I do in this situation? What should I do in my career at this point?
[Daniela Bobadilla] Source: LYBIO.net
Ya, absolutely, but they are so humble that they wouldn’t give it to me.
No, they want you to find it out on your own.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
No, no even that. I’ll go up to Charlie and I’ll be like: Hey, like, I can’t figure out the sign, it’s to brilliant for me to say, I don’t wanna wreck it by putting my own twist on it. He’s like what ever your gonna do is brilliant. And I’m just like: that that
Well that’s a compliment, I mean
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Ya
They trust you
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Ya, ya it’s a total compliment but at the same time, it’s just like, really, really, your putting yourself at the same level as me. Ahhhh – like it almost makes you wanna hide and the same as Martin.
He’s the same way?
[Daniela Bobadilla] Source: LYBIO.net
He’s the same way.
He doesn’t give any advice?
[Daniela Bobadilla]
No. He’s so super chill and you ask him to rehearse and: hey, can I rehearse with you, he’s like – ah what? Those are the kind of humbling moments.
You can work with that because it can be easily intimidating?
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Ya, absoluetly. Ya, I just really have to just put that aside but funny enough about that scene – during that exact scene Zack Efron was on our set.
Oh. Really?
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Ya!
Were you freakin’ out?
[Daniela Bobadilla]
I was freakin’ out! Everyone –
I just freaked out a little bit.
[Daniela Bobadilla] Source: LYBIO.net
Ya. Exactly. No, everyone was making fun of me. Between Martin and Charlie. You were completely fine. And then Zac Efron walks in and you love every line and I was just: Sorry, I’m a girl.
You gotta do it. Do it.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Ya.
Was Zac nice, did he say anything to you?
[Daniela Bobadilla]
He was super nice, hey I’m a big fan of the show. And I was like awww awww aww
Was he just stopping by? Why was he there?
[Daniela Bobadilla]
He’s friends with Charlie.
Oh
[Daniela Bobadilla] Source: LYBIO.net
And Charlie didn’t had the decency
Oh their friends.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
And Charlie didn’t have the decency to tell me that he was coming. Ya
He wanted to surprise you, I bet.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Ya,
That’s a little birthday gift, right there.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
I’m not as I was bright red as I was there, probably.
And another. You’re a big fan of Lindsay Lohan.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Yes.
And I was looking at your Twitter and you were really excited, she came on the set to guest star. And that episode is actually airing tonight.
[Daniela Bobadilla] Source: LYBIO.net
TONIGHT!
How was that to meet her, you loved her movies when you were a kid?
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Absolutely! Like, I have all of them on VHS, my mom was so mad, she tried to send them down but they didn’t make it on time. So I actully brought my copy of Parent Trap and asked her to sign it.
Asked her to sign it.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Ya
It’s such a good moive, isn’t it.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
I was super excited. Ya!
Were you in any scenes with her?
[Daniela Bobadilla] Source: LYBIO.net
I was. I was. I had two scenes with her. It was so crazy.
Can you say what they are gonna be?
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Ya
What happened?
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Well, it’s just one – lets just say: she does something illegal. But – I’m – I’m
OK.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
I’m very excited because it’s Lindsay Lohan
Ok
[Daniela Bobadilla]
And I’m tweeting on my way out: “Best day ever”
Best day
[Daniela Bobadilla] Source: LYBIO.net
So, that’s all I’m gonna say – you’re gonna have to watch.
I just saw Lindsay Lohan do something illegal.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Yes, well – to me.
Ya, to you on the set.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
So, you’ll see.
And it’s all in context of the show.
[Daniela Bobadilla] Source: LYBIO.net
Ya – oh ya ya ya ya – totally on the show, ya!
Ok – I got it.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Off screen she was super nice, I embarrassed her with my movie and she signed something really sweet on it. And it’s framed.
That’s really sweet. Now what can we expect from your character this season? Is dad going to start dealing with you dating or anything like that?
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Ya, ya. Sam is definitely growing up, there’s a scene coming up where Sam is actually in the school musical and I won’t say which one but I have to wear something…
Are you gonna sing in it?
[Daniela Bobadilla]
No. Not yet.
Ok
[Daniela Bobadilla] Source: LYBIO.net
Not that I’ve seen – we’ve actually just shot this one but I get to wear something a little revealing and Charlie is not too happy.
Oh is he going to be a little upset about that?
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Yes. Yes. Yes, even though the mom says she’s young, ya, so – it’s getting really exciting, it’s nice, it’s literally just a year ago, we’re on our 3rd season, I was playing 13 and now I’m playing 16.
And your growing up so quickly on the show.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Ya
That’s the magic of television
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Exactly. Exactly
Now, I’ve heard that you convinced your parents to move to Los Angeles.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
I did
How did you – you were a teenager?
[Daniela Bobadilla] Source: LYBIO.net
Ya
You did it
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Uh huh
How do you do that? Cause I would of done that to my parents.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Right, exactly, well no, just, I never really settled into high school. And I was always trying to find a way out and like I did everything I had to, I got my good grades, I set everything up just in case but LA was always the dream of me, and I said: I have an opportunity, we need to take it. So I actually made a power point and told them –
You made a power point presentation
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Ya
I wish we had that right now to show people at home
[Daniela Bobadilla]
I still have it, I still have it
You do
[Daniela Bobadilla]
In my filex, oh ya
Next time your here, can you bring it in?
[Daniela Bobadilla] Source: LYBIO.net
Oh ya – I can totally bring it in cause they are both business people, so I thought like act supper professional about this – I’m gonna make a business pitch. So I made a business pitch
So you knew your audience.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
I did. And it worked.
And look
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Ya
It definitely worked and it paid off
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Ya
And does your family, does your whole family live here now?
[Daniela Bobadilla]
No, they don’t
Ok
[Daniela Bobadilla] Source: LYBIO.net
Well, I urgently – the power point and said: lets go down for 3 months and try it out, these are the most like epic three months like television, while your down there – 3 months turned into 3 years this year.
Oh wow, and that was probably one of the best power point presentations every created.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Right – they’re not to happy about that though they’re were like you always knew you were gonna stay. Sorry
Well you tricked them that’s alright
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Ya
You’re happy where you are right now?
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Oh ya!
And then you went on at 16 to graduate from highschool?
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Ya, ya
And did you do that all on your own? Did you get a tutor?
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Kind of – well no. I – they way that I did it, I took uh the test to graduate from U.S. Highschool but Canadian Highschool is like a bit tougher so I graduated from U.S. Highschool at 16 just to please my parents and don’t worry, I’m down here, but I’ll still do school, I did Canadian highschool online and I finished it right up with my classmates.
You – my friend are an over achiever.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Unfortunately –
That’s really good.
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Or fortunately
It’s paying off
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Ya
It’s totally paying off –
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Uh huh
Thank you so much for coming by
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Thank you
It was really great to meet you
[Daniela Bobadilla]
Good to meet you too
And happy birthday
[Daniela Bobadilla] Source: LYBIO.net
Thank you so much
20 years old
[Daniela Bobadilla]
20
That’s it – no more teen – no more longer a teenager
[Daniela Bobadilla]
