A call from Peter [Mel] asking me, if I wanna go to Cortes and can I be down in Southern California in like 12 hours. And that’s where I was like; I don’t think I wanna go. Like, you know what I mean, like, I wanna go but I don’t wanna go. It’s everything about it tick, it’s the sketchiest wave I can think of and it’s huge and its just in the middle of the ocean and it’s not safe. First time for me seeing it, it was just like: What am I doing here? Really the best, biggest waves were breaking way up at the top, like, way deeper than where everyone was siting was, like, there is 12 Jet Skies out there, there’s paramedics, there’s a lot of safety equipment, there like a quarter mile. So deep, I’m so far up the point that if I don’t hold this, it’s gonna be so difficult for these guys to get me, it made me realize like, I’m on this one on my own. If I’m gonna do this, I gotta make it. At that point the biggest set of the day came through that I’ve seen yet, and it was the biggest wave I’ve seen. I just turned around and just whipped it. And just paddles as hard as I could into this thing, it’s like the scariest I’ve ever been in my life, for sure.

I got to my feet and I had a negotiate a whole bunch of crap, a whole bunch of bump but I was just focused on making the drop, the drop was not easy. Start making my bottom turn, I was just like, ahhh – this is insane, like, I got it. I’m gonna pull out. I’m out of this thing. I get up to the top, towards the top of the wave and I’m looking out and the wave behind is another massive one, and its breaking way wider than mine and I’m like ahhh – I can’t pull out, if I pull out, I’m gonna impact [ ] another zone [ ] cause that’s right I’m coming into it. Ride number two, here we go, we’re going through this section and then I locked into that pull, I’m going to the channel, I’m out of here. Like, I’m going the whole way, I’m gonna take this wave like as far as I can ride it. Flew by the Jet Skies and it was just like, I’m gonna make it, I’m gonna make it, I’m gonna make it, like, go, go, go, just had the wave of my life, the biggest wave, the best ride of my life.
