Billy Ray Harris sits on the sidewalk in Kansas City, Missouri his regular spot were passersby leave a little money in his cup. But last week, the 55 year old homeless man got more than just spare change.

When I finally get started to leave, I unlocked my bike and dumped the change out to my hand, and there was the ring.

A diamond and platinum engagement ring accidentally dropped into his cup by Sarah Darling, after forgetting she tucked it in her zippered wallet.

I didn’t really look, I was walking by, and I just kind of went like that.

When Harris discovered the ring he thought the diamond must be fake. But on closer inspection, he decided to take it to a jeweler.

So I went and had it appraised and low and behold – about had a fit when the guy told me.

It was really worth some money.

It was really worth some money, worth enough that he was ready to give me 4 grand right there on the spot.

Harris admitted he considered taking the money, but said his grandfather raised him to be honest.

In my heart, I just – I just couldn’t do it. You know, I mean, it’s not – I am not trying to say that I am no – I am no saint, but I am no devil either.

Darling realized the next day, she had lost her ring, and when she returned to the spot, Harris had the ring waiting. The two recently met again and Darling expressed her thanks.

My ring wasn’t insured, and I wouldn’t have been able to replace it, and it was such a feeling of loss, when it was gone, and so – I am just so eternally grateful for you.
