Hello hello, so today I’m in a pretty chilled out mood, just hanging out in my hoodie. I’m actually gonna show you my hoodie cause I think it’s pretty cool. [I Love Nerds - David & Goliath] It says: I Heard Nerds and it’s from David & Goliath. I got it when I was in London and I’ve just been wearing it like crazy, it is my favorite hoodie at the moment and I’m just a huge nerd and I love things like this and I just love the geeky little heart here with glasses. But anyways that is off topic.

Earlier this morning I Tweeted, I asked if you guys would be interested in a vlog about Studying Abroad cause I mentioned it in passing before but I’ve never really gone into detail about it and I’ve talked about being in different countries – and you guys were like – what are you talking about; why are you all over the world? And stuff like that.

So, I figured it would be a good idea to share my experience with you guys, cause I know a lot of you maybe considering Studying Abroad or you just kind of want somebody else’s perspective on it or maybe this will get you interested in Studying Abroad so another thing that sparked the inspiration for this is last night I couldn’t sleep and there is hair in my face. I couldn’t sleep and I was just going through old photos and I came across photos when I was Studying Abroad and they just brought back so many amazing memories and I actually Twit Pict on of the photos.

But I just figured, you know, this would be a great thing to talk about because I just had the most amazing experience and I have a lot to say about Studying Abroad.

The reason why I decided to Study Abroad, in the first place is – well actually there are a few reasons but the main reason is, I had always wanted to travel and I traveled all over the United States and I had been to Mexico, but I had never been outside of North America and I just always wanted to Study Abroad. So, it was always in the back of my mind, but I never knew I would be able to actively pursue it so it was always there but I wasn’t sure I would ever have the opportunity to Study Abroad. And then one evening I got a letter in the mail from my University telling me that I was eligible to participate in their Study Abroad Program. And my mom saw the letter and immediately she was like: You have to do it. You have to do it. My mom has traveled all around Europe, she absolutely loved it and she wanted me to have the same experience.

I think that being young and being a student is like the optimal time to travel and just experience new things because you are so impressionable and you are just like a sponge. You can just absorb different cultures and different languages and different foods and its just so much fun.

So, after knowing the my mom was completely behind me on it, I just decided to go for it because I was actually afraid that she wouldn’t want me to go – that she would be afraid to let me go – but she was like: No. “Go for it!” “Go for it!” “I want you to have this experience.” So after she said that I was like: “Okay, I’m just gonna do it.” And I know a lot of people have a hesitation towards Studying Abroad because they are afraid of being homesick and leaving behind the people that they love and just being thrown into a completely different environment, I can completely understand why people are afraid of Studying Abroad and just going to a different country in general.

I am someone who is not really to attached to where I live, I lived in California my entire life and I will take any opportunity to get outside of California; not because I don’t love California; I love California; I love my home state. It has so much to offer but I feel like I’ve seen so much hear and I just like to see what the rest of the world has to offer.

So, for me leaving California to go somewhere else is really exciting but I have to admit the first night that I was abroad, I was a little bit home sick. And I think you really just have to get through that initial first night or there is – or first few nights and you just really have to go into everything with an open mind. If you go in with a closed mind and you are gonna have a horrible experience and you’re gonna be miserable because if you just go in with tunnel vision, you’re not gonna learn anything, you’re gonna be really depressed, you’re gonna be thinking about all the people that you miss, you’re gonna be thinking about the normal foods that you eat, and all of that, and you’re not gonna enjoy the experience for what it is. I know my room mate struggled with that beginning first, she would constantly have these random break downs and I was always trying to comfort her. I remember one time, we are actually at a train station and she just burst into tears, we were actually going from Paris back to London. And she just burst into tears because the people weren’t really that nice at the train station and they were giving us a hard time and we had missed our train and a bunch of stuff had happened. She was just like: “I don’t wanna be here, I wanna go home.” And she had so many moments like that. And I had always had to bring her back down and had to tell her that this is an experience to remember, yes we are gonna have a hard times – but it’s all part of the learning experience. It’s – it’s something that’s educational, you can’t get this kind of education in a class room. So at the beginning she absolutely hated it, she was such a picky eater so she basically just lived off of Margarita Pizza and Plasta – plain pasta with like tomato sauce and gradually along the way, I got her to open up to different things. It’s a good thing, she had me, because I was just so open to everything and she was really afraid so it was good cause we kind of balanced each other out. And she kind of reminded me what was good about home but I was able to open her up to different foods and different music and stuff like that and so at the end she just loved the entire experience and she didn’t even wanna go home.
