[Jay Leno]
Ya
[Novak Djokovic]
I’ve managed to achieve my two biggest goals, to become number one in the world and to win Wimbledon in 2 – 3 days, it was an incredible felling. I had all my entourage with me, all my family, all my friends, all my team, I was just, I was just, I don’t know. I fell down after the matches — whoooa!~~ I don’t know, I keep on falling down after every match. I couldn’t just give a simple fist pump, I had to fall down.
[Audience] Source: LYBIO.net
(laughs)
[Jay Leno]
And you ate grass? What was that?
[Novak Djokovic]
Ya, there was something ah that I can not explain.
[Jay Leno]
I know the band will often use grass but if it’s ____ hold ____
[Novak Djokovic] Source: LYBIO.net
(laughs) No there was, listen, in my dreams the grass tasted much sweeter.
[Jay Leno]
Ya.
[Novak Djokovic]
I had the flavor of sweat, my sweat, Paul’s sweat, it didn’t really feel great, but it came naturally, I think.
[Jay Leno]
So tell, tell how much, when you were #3, how much more work to get to be #1? I mean, how much more intense, what did you do, did you change anything?
[Novak Djokovic] Source: LYBIO.net
I change many things. I think it’s a process of learning, I guess, getting the life experience, knowing what to do on and off the court, coping with the pressure, the expectations, you know, just maturing as a person and as a player in general and ah, there have been moments in the last two, three years, where I, where I thought to myself, this Federer and __________, they are so dominate, they are winning all the tournaments, you know, I didn’t know if I can really make it, but they you know, I had this turning point last year about this time, you know where I spoke to my-my-my team and they encouraged me to continue on and here-here I am. And it’s been a roller coaster ride.
[Jay Leno]
And you changed your diet. What did you do there?
[Novak Djokovic]
Ya! I changed my diet. I’m gluten free officially.
[Jay Leno]
Gluten Free?
[Novak Djokovic] Source: LYBIO.net
Gluten Free.
[Jay Leno]
Your family own a pizza shop, don’t they?
[Novak Djokovic]
Ya, I know. The worst thing – the worst thing in Serbia on like ever corner of the street of Belgrade of my city is a bakery.
[Jay Leno]
Ya, right.
[Novak Djokovic]
You get in, and I’m coming in with my friends and they’ll grab this, I’ll grab this, this bread, it’s all fresh, it’s 7 or 8 in the morning, so I’ll sit down on the table with them and they’re all coming with the gluten in my mouth like arrrghhh. I’m loving this. And I’m just watching so.
[Jay Leno]
Is it hard? Cause I never realized how delicious gluten was until I had __________ do you find it
[Novak Djokovic]
You know, you have gluten free breads.
[Jay Leno] Source: LYBIO.net
That’s called cardboard.
[Novak Djokovic]
I agree it’s like eating Styrofoam, plastic
[Jay Leno]

[Novak Djokovic]
Wow!
[Jay Leno]
That’s quite an honor.
[Novak Djokovic]
That’s quite an honor. I mean, it must sound, you know, it maybe sounds ___________ but it’s very sympathetic the way – the way – the way they support me. It’s great. You really have to come to Serbia to see and experience who we support each other and I think in this moment, not just tennis players, athletes in general are the biggest Ambassadors of our country so ha, I think – I think they are aware of that and it’s great.
[Jay Leno] Source: LYBIO.net
So at what age did you know, hey I’m pretty good at this? Someday to be Gluten Free and #1?
[Novak Djokovic]
I think ah, between ah, 3 and 4.
[Jay Leno]
3 and 4? Ya – ya.
[Novak Djokovic]
I’m kidding. (laughs) I started when I was four years old and they were making street tennis courts in-front of the restaurant and I – I was very curious what kind of sport it is and I started playing tennis, but you know, the first time I really had this dream of becoming the best in the world was probably when I was seven.
[Jay Leno]

[Novak Djokovic] Source: LYBIO.net
Ya.
[Jay Leno]
