Great comedy and music stars join Jon Stewart in support of autism programs, schools, and services all over the country.

This is why they do it.

We’ve told you why people with autism, shouldn’t be written off. Why they deserve like everyone the chance to reach the potential, that’s why we are here tonight, that’s why we are doing this. So let’s take a look at what happens when someone actually gets that chance.

[Michelle DiPiazza]
Jodi was diagnosed right before her second birthday.

[Tom DiPiazza]
What they told us was we don’t know what causes autism? You know. There is no cure for it, it’s a lifelong disability and don’t expect too much.

[Michelle DiPiazza]
It’s okay.

[Jodi DiPiazza]
No.

[Michelle DiPiazza]
All these dreams we had for her, I had for her all of a sudden they vanished.

At three years old she’s started school and she went to a full day of intensive therapy…

[Teacher]
Who is that?

[Tom DiPiazza]
Constant teaching, and then we she came home did another two hours of therapy in the house?

[Jodi DiPiazza]
(Inaudible).

[Bridget Taylor]
The time that she started with us, she really was barely able to form a sentence, couldn’t really speak. Jodi would engage in pretty severe tantrums when you disrupted any of her routines, if things didn’t go her way, she would become aggressive and she might tip over chairs, tip over tables, cry, scream very, very distressed.

[Jodi DiPiazza]
No, no, no, no. Let’s go to the kitchen. Thank you, Bridget.

[Bridget Taylor]
You’re welcome. Almost everything was taught to her from a very young age.

We are extremely lucky to have gotten into a program where my child was able to access exactly what she needed.

[Jodi DiPiazza]
I got a song…

[Bridget Taylor]
We picked up early on that she is very interested in music. Anything she would hear on TV or on the radio station, she would just walk over to her keyboard and start playing.

She loves music and I think through music and through sound, she’s making herself known. She puts everything into it, it’s been difficult, hard, but it’s amazing how far she has come.

[Tom DiPiazza]
We were afraid she would never speak, never dreaming that she would sing or even be able to understand and as the education continues, I’ve taken off that idea that there is some limit on her, because she continually proves that, that’s not true.

[Jodi DiPiazza]
Hello, everybody I’m going to play Firework by one of my favorite singers Katy Perry.

[Katy Perry – Firework]

[Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson (October 25, 1984)]

Do you ever feel like a plastic bag drifting through the wind
Wanting to start again?
Do you ever feel, feel so paper thin like a house of cards
One blow from caving in?
Do you ever feel already buried deep six feet under scream
But no one seems to hear a thing
Do you know that there’s still a chance for you?
‘Cause there’s a spark in you
You just gotta ignite
The light and let it shine
Just own the night
Like the Fourth of July

Cause, baby, you’re a firework
Come on show ‘em what you’re worth
Make em go oh, oh, oh
As you shoot across the sky
Baby, you’re a firework
Come on; let your colors burst
Make em go oh, oh, oh
You’re gonna leave em fallin down oh oh

You don’t have to feel like a waste of space
You’re original you cannot be replaced
If you only knew what the future holds
After a hurricane comes a rainbow

Maybe the reason why all the doors are closed
So you could open one that leads you to a perfect road
Like a lightning bolt your heart will glow
And when it’s time you’ll know
You just gotta ignite
The light and let it shine
Just own the night
Like the 4th of July

Cause, baby, you’re a firework
Come on show em what you’re worth
Make ‘em go oh, oh, oh
As you shoot across the sky ey ey
Baby, you’re a firework
Come on; let your colors burst
Make ‘em go oh, oh, oh
You’re gonna leave oh oh oh oh

Bridge
Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
It’s always been inside of you, you, you
And now it’s time to through, ooh, ooh

[Jodi DiPiazza]
Baby, you’re a firework
Come on show em what you’re worth
Make ‘em go oh, oh, oh
As you shoot across the sky ey ey
You’re a firework
Come on let your colors burst
Make ‘em go oh, oh, oh
You’re gonna leave ‘em fallin down oh oh
