Hey, I’m Joe Penna, and I’m going to write my life.

I – Well no, it’s going to take too long. I’ll draw it instead. I was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil. I grew up in a very close-knit family, and I lived there until I was about 12 years old. Then I moved to Boston. You see, I didn’t have that many friends in Brazil. So I was very excited for the move, until I got to the airport in the United States.

It was then that I realized that learning the English language was going to be a lot tougher than I thought. The only words that I knew at the time were welcome and balloon. As you can imagine, having conversations with people at first was very difficult. I mostly kept to myself until I was comfortable with English. Then I knew that I had to do something about my shyness.

I started driving to shopping malls outside of my town, places that I didn’t usually go to. I would practice talking to strangers there, which helped me be less afraid to talk to people. It was good timing because I was about to head to college.

At school, I started studying to be a doctor, but it was there that I discovered YouTube and my passion for making videos. It was a tough choice, but I decided to leave school and pursue video production as a career.

Making a living at first was really difficult, and I was taking every single job that came my way. Eventually, my video work outside of YouTube stopped being fun, and became more of a chore.

I didn’t have the creative freedom to do whatever I wanted to do. I didn’t know this at the time, but I was about to make the most important decision of my life. I decided to move to Los Angeles.

When I got there, I focused all of my efforts entirely on making videos for YouTube, even though it took a big toll initially. I was constantly working on my channel. I was going to soup kitchens; I was sleeping on the floor of my apartment. I was even selling stuff to be able to eat. It sounds rough, but there was one thing that kept me going. I met a girl.

We started dating, but I had a sneaking suspicion that things were going to go far. After a year or two, my work finally paid off. My YouTube channel started doing really well. Things were looking up in my career, in my life; I got to marry the girl of my dreams. Lately, the success of my channel has enabled me to start my own company, and to work with my wife everyday.

The choices I made have shaped my life, both the good experiences and the hardships. Now, that you guys have been watching my videos, I’ve gotten the chance to talk about doing bigger and bigger projects.

A lot of people ask me, “What’s next?” It took a lot of thought, but I finally figured out exactly what my next move is. My next big project I’ll be – just a second. Christen, do you have another marker? Oh, well thanks for watching.
