Ladies and gentlemen, I’m so pleased to have this opportunity to congratulate the NAZ Legacy Foundation on its work to promote excellence in education and to help build a strong and harmonious society here in the United Kingdom.
Having myself personally invested the late Naz Bokhari with his OBE, I should also like to extend my warmest congratulations to his son, Harris, who established this foundation and to all its supporters for everything you have achieved. I can only say how grateful I am that one of the foundations’ priorities has been to support my Mosaic program.
When I founded Mosaic, I had modest ambitions for it to support young people in disadvantaged Muslim communities. To think that now in Mosaic’s fifth anniversary year, its mentoring programs will support over 4,000 young people in 150 schools and prisons with a support of over 800 volunteers is, I have to say, enormously hearteningg, and a great tribute to the tireless efforts of all those who are kind enough to associate themselves with his work.
The success of Mosaic’s initiatives shows the willingness of individuals to contribute their time and resources to this important cause. The hundreds of generous volunteer mentors are very much the lifeblood of Mosaic. But a great deal, a very practical assistance is also necessary in order to achieve these extraordinary results. This is where the remarkable support of organizations like the NAZ Legacy Foundation is so vitally important.
In founding Mosaic, I knew that it would need somebody with real personality and drive to take it forward. And this is why I asked Her Royal Highness Princess Badiya bint El Hassan to become its Founder Chairman. Princess Badiyas’s determination to ensure that Mosaic delivers programs of the highest possible quality and impact has been truly exceptional. it was therefore with immense pleasure and pride that I learned Princess Badiya was to be awarded the inaugural Naz Legacy Foundation Honorary Education Fellowship in recognition of her invaluable contribution to Mosaic.

Thanks to the support of people like Princess Badiya and organization like the NAZ Legacy Foundation, Mosaic has achieved a great deal, but there remains much to do. I can only hope that with your continued support, Mosaic will go on providing a means for exceptional individuals to give back to society, improving the life chances of more young people from our Muslim communities and incidentally, from many other communities throughout the Islamic world, as well as bringing different groups together for the benefit of all.
With your help, ladies and gentlemen, I have no doubt that Mosaic will be able to achieve all this and more.
