In the Democratic Republic of Congo, in the city of Goma, two children on average are raped every single hour.

Because of the conflict there are no barriers to bad behavior. Law and order are broken down. What we’re really trying to do is to rebuild the community’s ability to stop that kind of behavior.

War Child will use innovative technology to make sure that there’s frontline rapid response to sexual violence and other abuses against children so they can get help as soon as they possibly can.

What this project does is introducing a child helpline. It introduces a text system so that children can text. Then, we’ll have a digital map so we will know, in real time, where the worst numbers of rape cases are happening and we can go and do some intensive work.

The really unique thing about the project is looking at preventing things from happening in the first place.

With the Global Impact Award over eighteen months, this program will provide direct counseling and support to 4500 children. With the mapping technology, we think we’ll be able to prevent the rapes of nine thousand children during that time.
