As two guys who were bullied a lot growing up, we asked straight bodybuilders what they think about bullying?
And here is what they had to say.
My name is Bradley Martyn.
My name is Jim Stoppani.
I’m Brad Rowe.
My name is Max Philisaire.
My name is Attila Toth.
My name is Raymond Fahnbulleh.
My name is Jeremy Buendia. I’ve been a bodybuilder for seven years now, almost eight years.
I have been lifting since 1998.
A collegiate football player, free sport athlete through High School.
You’re constantly trying to one-up yourself and that just became fine to me.
So switching gears a little bit, um… did you ever experience bullying?

I’ve been picked on a few times.
Yeah, I was bullied a lot, actually, surprisingly, even though I was kind of the alpha male.
You know kids would gang up on me, you know whispering things here or there.
First of all, I was chubby kid.
So people would call me like dumbo and stuff like that.
Most people don’t know my father came out, when I was about two, once kids in the middle school found out that my dad was gay, you know a lot of emotions going on [at a] young age it’s really kind of hard to wrap your head around.

I didn’t understand why I was being bullied because you know you do have random people just want to pick on you and make fun of you.
So why do you think it is that people bully other people?
In a lot of cases, people want to express their power that they don’t have.
And they want to sort of project this tough strong image when inside maybe they are not.
You know people think it’s cool. They want to fit-in in certain things.
It’s just about making you feel better, making you feel stronger, but that doesn’t mean you are a stronger person or better person. True strength comes from like helping other people.
Bullying is definitely not strong like.
Being true to yourself that’s what’s really going to make a person a strong person.
Or an LGBT kid – who’s coming up and being picked on and getting passed all that without letting other people’s influence affect him, that’s strength.
What would you say to someone who is watching this who is bullying people right now?
[Bradley Martyn:] This [beep] is still going on, like, this is crazy, like its 2015.
You know, whatever the reason it is that you’re bullying, stop.
It’s not rewarding to pick on each other. It’s not rewarding to hurt somebody.
You are not projecting your strength. You are not projecting your authority. You are actually projecting weakness.
If you have a better character, you’d be more than willing to uplift other people instead of trying to bring them down, and make them feel bad about themselves.
You can’t tell me that you walk up to that person, put him down and walk way, and know in your heart that you feel good.
People get so caught up in judging and pointing and classifying other people.
It’s just a waste of time. Why don’t you focus on yourself and make yourself better in life.
What message would you have to a kid that’s being picked on or a kid that’s being bullied?
If you’re being bullied and you are in the LGBT community, and you are young kid coming up and you feel different…
No matter where you are from or who you are.
Be really strong.
Because there’s many people just like you.

You’re not losing. You know, so if you let them change your perspective on yourself that’s when you are losing.
What the others think really don’t matter.
It’s not up to someone else to like, tell you how to live your life.
I think you need to find something that you’re passionate about whether it would be art, music, sports, school…

But the second thing is to please, please, speak out.
People don’t have to go through things alone because they are not alone.
Know that you’re going to find people or strong people in the world that will be there to look out for you and to support you. So you know you can’t look at us and just think typical meat heads, pick things up, and put things down.
We know we’re strong in different ways.
A person’s strength is based on who they are inside and how treat other people.
You don’t have to be, you don’t have to lift a 1000 pounds to be strong.
Knowing who you are makes you very strong.
So find your strength and find who you are and…
Please stop bullying.
