La Rochelle, France is the setting for the tour stop of the 2015 Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series. The sun is shinning and the atmosphere is simply amazing. This is what the athletes live for when they see a crowd of 75,000 spectators in absolute awe of the cliff diving action on display.

It’s the fifth time we frequented the charming city of La Rochelle, and the locals embrace this experience of this event with open arms. The tour Saint Nicolas provides a picturesque tower in which athletes will take the impressive 27.5M leap into the harbor below, and they will reach speeds up to 85 KM per hour.

The highlight today include a brand new dive from Blake Aldridge.

Blake Aldridge
United Kingdom
Round 2 Head to Head
Reverse 2 Somersaults
5 Twists Free
Degree of Difficulty 6.3

He calls it the big twist; a reverse 2 somersaults with 5 twists in just 3 seconds. It’s simply insane and not its the most difficult dive performed. And with the aid of this new dive – he takes 2nd place.

I’m super super happy. I came here really ill and I did a new dive really well, you know – That’s living proof I’m full of life.

Orlando Duque’s on fire with his rip entry, especially with his favorite dive, the reverse 2 somersault with 4 twists. He secures another podium finish to take 3rd place.

I mean, the level of competition is just really high and I’m just proud to be in 3rd place right now.

A startling moment for the cliff diving community is witnessing one of the season favorites Steven LoBue striking his head on the platform. Incredibly, and somehow Steve still manages to complete the entire dive. Fortunately, he has no major injuries. But “wow” this is one tough man. Hats off to you Steve for showing true perseverance.

And I think that one got the best of me a little bit but uh…I made it down to the water safely, I finished the whole dive so I’m happy about that, just kind of gotta shake it off and get ready for Texas.

And now we turn to the athlete who takes 1st place and is the master himself, Gary Hunt. This man deserves all the credit for taking this win as he is in supreme diving condition. Just look at his rip entry
