She was only a young girl in early twenties and when I walked up to the car, I remember looking the ambulance were trying to get into her at that stage and the firies were there – yeah, and there was a quite a few people that saying that she was looking at me through the car window and just in that instant, while she was looking at me, she stopped looking – if you –
It’s really a hard thing to explain, but I thought you know that’s really bad, she doesn’t look like she’s in a good way at all.
So anyway, she was taken away and taken off to hospital and that girl who had died on her bed and she’d been cleaned up and you know she looked like she was asleep, she look beautiful. She was a beautiful looking girl.
And he walked up to her and he – he just wanted her to come back, you know he kept saying to her “baby come back to me, come back to me, wake up” and I stood in the corner and look away and cried and thought, ‘you know, I am not good at this I’m not really good at this job at all’. Sorry.
All coppers just want people to take care on the roads to – to be considerate and caring to other people on the roads.
Everyone knows the rules and all of that. It’s not about road rules and regulations, it’s not about us giving tickets, it’s about people just taking time and care to do the right thing, and get to the places you want to go safely because once you’re gone it doesn’t matter, but the people that are left behind are the ones that have got to deal with the pain.

And as emergency services workers, it shouldn’t be about us – we get paid to do a job that we do, but every scene, every time you go to a death, every fatal, every time you knock on someone’s door to have to tell them that their loved one is not coming back, takes a little piece away from us.
