Okay – Let’s face it: Big Oil is used to having its way. But not today… and we have President Obama to thank for standing up to them in spite of the so called political risk.
President Obama has just rejected a permit for the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline – a project that promised enormous profits for corporate oil giants but an environmental disaster for the rest of us.
So big oil and their friends in Congress put the President to an election year test, by giving him just 60 days to decide on a massive oil pipeline.
Carrying the dirtiest oil on earth through the Heart of America. The President came on the side of the American people.
But make no mistake: Big Oil is going to fight back and they are gonna fight back hard and as hard as they can.
And they will have plenty of help from the Freinds in Congress, who collected 12 million dollars from the gas and oil industry over the last 24 months.
So when you hear about big oil and their supporters in Congress called Keystone XL a National jobs plan – you wanna say: Are you kidding me. A single pipeline project is not a jobs plan. Source: LYBIO.net
In the repeatedly and wildly exagerated job numbers and the people pushing hardest for this project have voted down real job proposals again, again and again.
You’ll also hear that big oils say that we need XL pipeline for security, well energy and security comes from reducing our dependency on oil, and not from increasing it from a pipeline, it would leave us with all the risk. Much of this oil was not heading for your gas tank, anyway, but for export to foreign markets.
I think the real and more important point is the real economic security (Geothermal Energy, Solar Energy) (Biofuels, Wind Energy) is found in clean energy. That’s our future. Not in dirty energy that is tied to none-renewable energy sources, and energy that threatens us with spills and public health and safety impacts and and ever worsening harm for climate change. It’s clean energy that will produce new plentiful jobs for generations to come and I’m particually concerned about the young people of tomorrow. What are we gonna give them? What are we gonna provide for them? It gives them a platform to carry on this great country we live in.
So because big oil may have lost, lost for the moment , it’s probably not gonna be the end of the fight, this is the beginning, the beginning of a real battle for American’s energy future. And I hope you can pay close attention and search out the real facts. Thank you.
