Hello, my name is Philip DeFranco it is Monday May 30th, 2011 and let’s talk about some news, starting with the fact that is May 30th, Memorial Day, if you get your US Holidays confused, Memorial Day is the day we remember US troops who have died in defense of this country and beliefs or something like that, I just realized that it’s wildly inappropriate that I’m wearing this shirt that’s not good, but it is not secret that I love our troops, whether I agree with what our country does overseas all the time not so much, but the men and women that put their lives at risk and it’s not even that anymore being a soldier for the United States ain’t what it used to be because let’s be honest, the last time everyone praised our troops was what, World War Two and that’s because one: we got to write the history books, two: the internet didn’t exist yet, and three: Hitler was that much of a douche-bag and when I talk history books part, what I mean is like no one ever goes “Oh yeah World War Two, isn’t that the one where Japan attacked the United States after the US put an oil embargo on that country and Japan really would been able to function otherwise, oh I remember that war.” No that’s not what people do, that being said once again, I love our country because any country that encourages being all that you can be so you can brag about it to people that aren’t, I’m all for it, but while we are on military type news.
Let’s talk about Libya NATO forces saying that Libya’s kind of, sort of leader Gaddafi, otherwise known as evil Carlos Santana his days are numbered, he’s isolated doesn’t have as many friends anymore, that being said we’ll see how it goes, I mean NATO essentially thought to paraphrase, “This shit is going to be easy.” But then Gaddafi just started giving guns to anyone that was like “Gaddafi, I guess he’s cool…” BAM “Why did you give me an anti-aircraft missile?” So it’s really good to see the progress over there.
In crazy McRandom news, Sean Kingston got into a jet ski accident, he was on a jet ski he had a girl on the back and he ran into a bridge. Kingston and the girl were rescued by someone that just happened to be there, then of course because twitter is twitter everyone thought Sean Kingston was dead, but he’s just really, really banged up in the hospital, in fact Kingston’s were so bad he was in the trauma ward and now he’s in ICU, as of right now, police are saying that alcohol doesn’t look like it was involved though whenever that’s how you open up, doesn’t seem too convincing, like if your girlfriend comes home and you’re like “How are you doing I didn’t cheat on you” that’s the probably the best way to open up, main point Sean Kingston is incredibly lucky because when you hear of jet ski accidents it’s usually not like “And they survived” because you’re on something that goes fast because it’s awesome and then you usually hit something that’s either going as fast towards you like another jet ski or a wall but, best Sean Kingston and his lady friend, hope you get better soon.
A 9 minute fail compilation video of everything that happened this month, a collection of frisky Friday twitpics, that’s when models, p@rn stars, just regular girls, take a dirty kind of picture, post it to the twitter, so a gallery for you for that and of course Rosie Huntington and our last story of the day is about YouTube and the future of media, the reason this comes up is the New York Times and many old schoolers have reported about the YouTube Next Up Contest if you’re not familiar, the YouTube Next Up Contest is where they took 25 people, flew them out to New York gave them $35,000 and gave them an unheard of week long boot-camp of YouTube, they flew out prominent YouTubers like Freddy Wong, the Fine Brothers I apparently lost an email, Jesus, been on the fucking site for 5 years you think you’ll get a little respect and so they took them through the gambit, whether it was about how to shoot how to edit, how to keep up your channel and kind of just helping feed the future and it’s nice a company like YouTube doing this not just throwing money at Hollywood talking to you, guy, having a little faith in something new, let’s be honest, for a company like YouTube, 25 people, $35,000 that’s not really that big of an investment, but anything like this makes me happy, I mean just last year, 100,000,000,000 views were from YouTube Partners now granted, half of those were probably from schmoyoho and RayWilliamJohnson but that’s a good thing and people really never hear those numbers, so a quick thing to those of that want to make a YouTube channel and make it a business, you’re not just posting stuff, you’re just like “That’s cool” if you do that, awesome, I love cool shit, and I’ll probably end up promoting if it actually is good, I take that back, there’s too much cool shit on the internet to get to everything.

But, people wanting to treat it as a business and maybe to the 25 there, here’s some unrequested advice, one: get to know as many people as possible, not just YouTubers but bloggers and people that they write for “established publications” it never hurts to know somebody specifically to the 25, you got to meet a bunch of people with $35,000 and a future possibly some free YouTube promotions.
Cherish that second: Do not just join a YouTube network because you think “That’s going to be too hard” one: the promotion they offer is usually not that good, two: when you’re getting started, they are not going to be able to put a lot of production behind you anyways, and three: you should never join a group anyways, unless they’ve proven to actually make you more money, before they sign you otherwise, you’s going to get fucked!
Three: never bite off more than you can chew, unless you’re me, and what I mean by that is you have room to fail, it’s all about focusing on what you’re good at.
Four: if you have the choice to go to film school or just to try sit out, just try shit out, I know that’s a scary thing to think.
But most of the people that I work that have gone to film school, usually don’t get jobs out of it, they get friendships and then really it’s all about who know and everything is learn-able, even if you’re not in a classroom I mean what you get verse what you pay for, when people talk about bubbles like things that can not sustain for much longer I look at school, I mean every-time they give out loans, college tuition just happens to go up to the same price, but that’s a whole another story, maybe we’ll save that for another video.
But my question to you today is: What favorite YouTube channel under 200,000 subscribers? let me know in the comments down below or in a video response and it is a Monday show so of course we are going to give something out I bite my lip away and today we will give away a a Xbox 360 and I guess two of these stickers that we’re not selling yet that sounds good.
