Hey guys, you’re watching the Philip DeFranco Show it is the Friday Philip DeFranco Show which means we’re going to give something away. But more on that later. Let’s jump into the first story today which is new media new media versus old media, something that usually annoys me when people bring it up but it is a big point today because as of today, the New York Times has announced that on March 28 they will be instituting a pay wall. This isn’t a shock because as they’ve been talking about putting a pay wall up but they have finally announced how much it will cost because how it’s going to work because how it’s going to work is you’re going to get 20 articles for FREE!!! how amazing free on the internet?! how amazing… But then after that, to access their content, to get past their pay wall you have to pay $15 per month unless you want to do the website, the iPhone app, and the iPad app that’ll $35 per month to which I must say to the New York Times, that is an amazingly innovative, trailblazing way to get people to stop reading your publication whoever came up with that idea, give that man a raise cause he will not have a job for too long, he’s going to need that extra cash. And then on the other hand, new media, YouTube has started a program/contest where 25 YouTubers under 300,000 subscribers can compete, but also at the same time learn, to get training. $35,000 of funding that they don’t have to pay back, all because YouTube has realized that the power on the internet from channels like this when I’ve gone into meetings, they say “We want one million Philip DeFranco’s” To which I say “no” that is too much douchebaggery but, getting behind content creators is a great move so right hand of YouTube maybe tell the left hand of YouTube “Why did you take away the channels tabs?” Sending a mixed messaged but, I like where your head is at.
The next thing that mattered today, is big news in Libya You know we’ve been talking about Libya for a while and how the rebels have actually really really lose because they are getting bombarded by sea, by air, on ground and all they have are these hammy downed weapons. Well, as of yesterday, the UN has declared a ‘no fly zone’ over Libya which many people are hoping, turns the tide but the real story is, is it too late? And regardless of the reason behind this A: We really care about the people and don’t want to see them die or B: I just paid $4.50 per gallon for gas The decision has been finally made and maybe it could lead to things turning around. Gaddafi released a statement saying “That is all these countries want to get crazy he’s going to get crazy right back at them.” Which is scary when the “leader” of a country gets all black chick on you. What you mean you going to put no fly zone over Libya? No no girl get off me girl get off me girl I don’t know if she’s going to get it wet. But all jokes aside, it is a very serious situation and I hope it is too late for the rebels to fight back. Because as we all know, life isn’t a movie and sometimes the bad guy wins.
One of the last things I want to talk about today, is the situation in Japan. If you have turned on a TV in the past 4 days, you’ve seen helicopters dropping water on reactors because they are terrified of a meltdown. Obviously trying to prevent a bigger catastrophe and it’s a very dark situation because right now they’ve been cycling employees through to minimize their dose of the radiation hoping that their dose of radiation doesn’t negatively effect them, either, you know, in the immediate, death or longer term, cancer and then death and one of the weirdest and scariest things I’ve heard was the fact they’re asking older employees over younger employees to do this And the reason is actually because it is less likely for that older person to die of radiation poisoning, than just old age. And if you send in the younger guys, then they might not be able to have kids, might be mutations, or of course long-term cancer. Which to me, is terrifying, but really speaks volumes of how amazingly brave these people are. And I don’t know if it has been brought up, but did you notice, how Japan received an earthquake, a Tsunami, a nuclear threat but no one is looting or rioting? Just something to think about.
Some quick things to mention about Japan. A lot of people have been comparing this to Chernobyl but it is not really the same situation. The terrible events that happened at Chernobyl are completely different. All power plants are not created the same way or equally. The catastrophe in Chernobyl involved a reactor that had not turned off and it’s not the same thing. Also, one of the options, though it is a last resort, is they might bury the nuclear plant. Put it under dirt, cement, you won’t be able to use the land but it is better than radiation spewing into the atmosphere. Which then brings up the last thing I want to talk about PLEASE AMERICANS, STOP BEING STUPID! When I hear and see people in Michigan buying potassium iodide pills because they are terrified of radiation poisoning I want to smack the Big Mac out of your mouth you stupid mother fucker. Really? You’re 7,000 miles away and you’re terrified of radiation poisoning. Source: LYBIO.net And this really just confirms something I’ve always kind of pondered and that is that half the people I’ve met in my life have been stupid and or self-involved. You’ve somehow turned a nuclear catastrophe 7,000 miles away into your own personal war to survive. It is pathetic, sad, and retarded. Even if some level of radiation ended up on our coast it would not be enough to actually affect you. So please, know that. If you thought it before, we’ve all been stupid at one point or another but let’s please remember, who is actually affected by this situation and either help them, keep them in our thoughts or spread the word.
