Dad’s a train nerd.

I’m proud to be a train nerd. I think it’s a good thing to be.
My brother and my dad, I mean, they can stay here all year; they won’t get bored.
Trains are just a lot of fun. My name is Neil Young.
This is what Neil Young is most famous for. For about 30 years, he has been a popular rock and roll singer, guitarist, song writer. But making music is not the only thing for which Neil Young has a passion.
When I was about six or seven, my dad bought me a train and he built me an L shaped table in my room. I remember really liking that train. When I started building the railroads, I built it so that my son and I could have something to do together. Especially, when we found out how disabled Ben was physically. Ben has cerebral palsy.
It can range from being extremely mild to quite severe. I am Pegi Young and I’m Ben and Amber’s mother.

I’m Amber Young and I’m 10 years old, cerebral palsy is something that you’re born with. Your muscles are stiffer and sometimes you can’t walk and you can’t speak and makes it harder to do things that you want to do and it’s harder for you to communicate with people, tell them what you’re thinking.
No one really knows what causes it. It’s really a brain injury.
Now, he can do so many more things.
He can run sometimes like two, three trains at once.
He can ring the bell, he can ring the whistle.

You got the whistle, let’s blow the whistle.
He uses a button called big red and then he also has his head switch that he can use.
He moves his head to make something happen. There you go.
You can see how into it he is.
I think he likes coming here to play with the trains because he is doing it with DAD and he likes doing stuff with dad a lot. And he will go and four track rides all over the ranch and then he will come back and he is so happy that he went.
He’s got his feelings and he’s got his sensitivities and he likes life.
He wants people to treat him respect…
It’s just a condition of life. It’s the way he is. The trains are fun for Ben to share. He has something that he can say look at this, you know, let’s play with the trains. You know, look what I can do with this. Good Benny. He is proud of that.
He is especially really likes an audience, uh…probably not unlike his father – runs in a family.

Ben has taught me that you never give up. We can’t say this is too hard, it can’t be too hard. There is so many kids with challenges that are so great and yet they just keep trying, so it was that if I come up against something that’s hard to deal with, I can handle it and it’s because of him.
