Hey good morning. My name is Andrew Turner. I don’t typically make video recordings, share things like this exactly. But I needed to put this out. So in the past few days the DEA has decided to release a letter of intent. They will ineffectively take away my opportunity to manage my pain and anxiety.
I’m a veteran. I suffer from combat-related disabilities. I deal with pretty severe chronic pain. I have PTSD. It isn’t an easy thing to manage. For a long time, I’ve worked with doctors in the DOD and VA to manage my symptoms. Several years ago I found a plant called Kratom I was told about it, did some research into it.
Turned out that – that just a little bit each morning, I was able to stop using opiates. They were prescribed to me by my doctors. Large amounts of Vicodin, Percocets. I haven’t taken any in months, months. I’d love to say years but it hasn’t been that long yet months though.
I’ve stopped taking my SSRIs I don’t need them. I very rarely have panic and anxiety attacks. It used to be, I had to leave a job in Immigration and Customs Enforcement because of my anxiety. I was let go from a federal job here in Washington D.C. because of my anxiety, because the medicines that I was being prescribed, it couldn’t manage it. Now I can. Now I’m a business owner. I actually ran for City Council in 2015 here in Hyattsville, Maryland. I’ve been able to manage my day. I can do things on my own again without my wife helping me, without others helping me. I didn’t think I was ever going to have that again. But I do.
Well, you know, since the DEA sent out that letter of intent. Mr. Rosenberg, the acting Director of the DEA has also sent a message to the media that says the public has no reason to comment.
You know, I served a little over nine years honorably in the Navy. I served in the Middle East. I served and worked at Guantanamo, went eye to eye with some pretty bad people. One of them took – took away the use, the functional use of my right hand in a violent attack on me. You know – I’ve earned my right to comment. That’s what I remember the First amendment being about that I rose my right-hand, the right hand I can’t even use anymore. I rose my right-hand and said I will support the Constitution. I will – against all enemies foreign and domestic.

But if I’m being told that I now as a private citizen cannot, Public have public redress of my grievances against the government against the DEA because it doesn’t matter. Mr. Rosenberg, right. You’re taking away my First Amendment rights. Not only that you’re also taking away my ability through being able to take Kratom for the next two years at a minimum, you’re telling me – ahhh – it’s not our concern. We don’t care. Do you care?
I’m a human like you, do you care Mr. Rosenberg? Because it’s time, it’s time that you care and hear our voices. We’re veterans, we’re citizens. We have the right to make comments. That’s what that 30 days is about when you file a letter of intent. It’s to let us comment. So you’re going to hear it this way because when I called today and spoke to your people of public affairs. They told me that that by the law they can take away my right to comment about this. And that is a right. I have the right to comment. So you’re going to hear it this way because this is my public redress of grievances. You’re wrong, you’re wrong in so many ways, you need to find a better way to deal with this. I will keep speaking you will hear more from me. This isn’t over.
