[Licy Be Make This Stop]
I just wrote this yesterday after hearing about another suicide and there’s been so many lately that it’s – it just feels like tipping point, like it’s just absolutely just breaking my heart so I want to read this from my laptop now.
Honestly, I don’t know where to begin.
But I do know there’s something’s wrong with the way we’ve been living.
And my heart is breaking.
Because we are chasing the wrong enemy.
Too scared of the complexity, we spend all our time trying so hard just to get the right recipe.
We put political correctness on this pedestal, when we have kids that are too scared to simply go to school…
We make sure that we say the right thing or nothing at all, meanwhile we’re actually letting the lies inside our minds rule…
“I’m no good”, “you’d be better off without me”, “nobody wants me here”…
Just because it’s not spoken out loud doesn’t mean it is not ringing loudly in somebody’s ear!
I’ve heard of parents that don’t know what to do, they are too scared to speak to their kids of the things they know on the inside to be true, all because they don’t have a piece of paper that say’s I’m a qualified mental health educator, and that’s not their fault, but it is a reflection of the way that fear has gripped our society as a result.
And we have been silenced, even sometimes governments don’t report, because they are so scared of what might be thought, this fear has pinned us down, but this isn’t doing us favours for those that need us now.
I know we don’t have all the answers, but being too scared to try isn’t one of them…
We need to reach out and love people, not make fun of them.
This young guy that lost his life said this “sticks and stones can break my bones, but words will never hurt me”, I’m sorry but I don’t know what’s worse, words that taunt and curse, or saying nothing at all to someone that hurts…
And I am not trying to throw blame, in fact those bullies will now need more support in order to live with their own pain…
but honestly this is what I can say, we have a responsibly to help things change, cause this is our problem, these are our people,
See… we gotta see that the solution doesn’t only rest in the hands of professionals, and yes I 100% believe that we need to see our GPs, our counsellors, our pastors, our psychs, professional help as a first step is definitely right…
But that doesn’t mean that there is nothing we can do,
See, we are part of this picture but we need to choose, choose to care, choose to get educated on the help that’s out there, see – there’s a myth I want to dispel, asking if someone is ok doesn’t hurt – it helps…
Can you hear me, I am talking to you, see you carry hope and you may not even know it,
you have something inside of you that someone else needs, but are you brave enough to show it?
See, this aint a flick through your Facebook, iPhone between ordering your latte on the way home kinda moment, this is one of those conversations where you have a chance to choose, will I switch off, or will I own it…
I’m speaking to you, because there IS something you can do, you can love like never before,
You can reach out to the person next door, on a bus, talk them after class, send a text if you must,
but there is this little voice inside of you that you gotta trust, not the one that brings you down, the one that lifts you up, the one that say’s speak, not the one that say’s shut up…
Because our love needs to be louder than the pain, our love needs to be louder than the shame, we need break down the walls of stigma so that it can never stand again…
We need to reach out and not in, speak hope and blessings, build up – not tear down, encourage those that need it us now…
See, I don’t claim to be an expert, I claim to care,
Please, don’t switch off, because this is message that we all need to to hear.
And I know that it is not easy,
I know that it is complex, that every situation is different
But please let’s just try to do our best with what we’ve got, because I honestly believe that together we can help Make This Stop.
