[Question:]
Can you – can you talk about when exactly did you make up your mind to officially retire, and how draining has this whole process been on you today knowing the announcement was made earlier today?

[Kobe Bean Bryant (born August 23, 1978):] Source: LYBIO.net
I mean, I’ve known for awhile, right, and I’ve always said, you know, if anything changes, you know then, then I’ll change my mind. But you know, the problem became for me it’s uh… you know… What does – what does that really mean? A decision like this – you can’t allow – you can’t make that decision based on you know outside circumstances.

It has to be an internal decision – and – and – finally I just had to – to accept the fact that I this – I don’t want to do this anymore, you know, it’s – and I’m OK with that and uh… You know, once I accepted that, than it became time to just let everybody know. Why not? I mean, it’s just – it takes a load off my shoulders and everybody else’s. And uh… it was just the right thing to do.

[Question:]
We’re – we’re you emotionally drained tonight?

[Kobe Bryant:]
No, not really. I mean, usually I was – its the first time playing back-to-back, so I was drained for other reasons. You know what I mean. But it’s – it’s – I honestly feel good about it. I really feel at peace with it and uh…. uh… and excited for what’s to come, honestly.

[Question:]
Kobe with all you have accomplished? What’s the hardest part about retirement?

[Kobe Bryant:]
Honestly, I don’t know. It’s – it’s tough to say now. Um… I mean, I think that question becomes a lot easier to answer when training camp comes around next year and I’m not there. I think that becomes a question that becomes a little easier to answer. But – but – right now, I honestly feel really at peace with it. You know and I’ve worked to so hard and continue to work really, really hard, even though I play like s-; I work really, really hard to not play like crap. And you know, I just do everything I possibly can, and – and I feel good about that.

[Question:]
You’ve said you don’t want a Farewell tour, now that you have announced it are you willing to accept it, especially starting […]

[Kobe Bryant:]
No, this is still extremely uncomfortable for me. I mean, you know, for me it’s – I – the amount of respect that I have for the fans on the road, um… I honestly, you know, if anything, I should be thanking them. And um… and uh… I think uh… just the mutual – showing mutual appreciation and respect for each other, to me, is – is enough. I really can’’t thank the fans enough, man. It’s been such a motivator for me and such a catalyst for everything that I’ve accomplished so… um…. I have so much respect and love for them.

[Question:] Source: LYBIO.net
[…] What’s that would that be like?

[Kobe Bryant:]
It’s going to be beautiful. It’s going to be beautiful. Yeah… you know, so much of my game was developed in Philadelphia. And uh… you know, Lower Merion High School, Coach (Gregg) Downer and playing in the Sunny Hill League. So many great coaches. Playing at Tustin Playground and [Almore] Playground and all these things. Just so many – so many great memories there. And it’s going to be a very, very special moment.

[Question:]
Did you come into this Season thinking that it could be it and you wanted to see if you can talk yourself out of it?

[Kobe Bryant:]
Yeah.

[Question:] Source: LYBIO.net
Or…

[Kobe Bryant:]
Right. That’s a good way put it, you know cause I mean I really knew – I think you guys could tell. It was like: This is it, but if something happened… you know. But I don’t think you make a decision that way. You have to look inside. I mean. If had a burning desire to continue to play, I would. You know, I wouldn’t be second-guessing. I wouldn’t be on the fence. I feel very solid in my decision.

[Question:]
What made you know this is it?

[Kobe Bryant:]
Excuse me?

[Question:]
What told you this is it?

[Kobe Bryant:]
Um… I don’t want to get too zen-like on you guys, but honestly the decision came in meditation with me. My mind starts drifting, it always drifted toward basketball. Always. Always. And it doesn’t do that now. It does that sometimes. It doesn’t do that all the time. And to me that was the first indicator that you know, this game is not something that I can obsess over for much longer.

[Question:]
Kobe would you consider retiring now as suppose to going through the rest of the Season?

[Kobe Bryant:] Source: L Y B I O . N E T
No, because there’s so much beauty in the pain of this thing. You know an – it sounds really weird to say that, but I appreciate the really, really tough times as much as I appreciate the great times. It’s important to go through that progression, because I think that’s where you really learn uh… about the self. And so, there is nothing I love than to be able to play this entire season; um… to go through all these tough times uh… and suit up on the road and play in these buildings for the last time — You know, I’m looking forward to that.
