Innovation is an overused word in our language today. And yet, innovation is the lifeblood of science and technology. In today’s age of austerity
how can we encourage and nurture scientific innovation? Who funds it? How do we ensure we have the innovators of the future.
I want to tell you about an event taking place later this year, to be held here in the wonderful Royal Society in London, to which would be bringing together some of the top thinkers from across science and engineering, government, industry and the media. To discuss and debate the issues surrounding scientific innovation, particularly in the current economic climate. Scientific research is under pressure for funding like everything else but do we reduce funding basic research if there are no immediate economic all societal benefits and if we do; does innovation suffer?
How do we ensure we maximize the chance of producing innovative ideas from our scientists and technologists and had we train the next generation of scientists and engineers. This will be an unique an exciting opportunity to join some of the world’s most influential thinkers as the tackle the major issues surrounding scientific innovation today and tomorrow.
