Don’t you feel like you just got to work out really now. George Hood is an amazing person, not only is he inspiring, but his energy is quite contagious.

I don’t know how long you can hold your plank position for, but George who is 57 years old did it today for 5 hours 15 minutes and 15 seconds. I spoke with him right after he was done and he said it even exceeded his own expectations.

[George Hood:]
This is the least I could do.

Passion is something.

[George Hood:]
It is more than just as physical plank.

I’m exerting about 55 pounds of pressure.

Has plenty of. At 57 and in the best shape of his life, George is trying to set a new world record for the longest held abdominal plank, two hours in.

[George Hood:]
I’m in the uncomfortable stage now.

Pain starts to set in.

[George Hood:]
I look for every bit of distraction that I can get.

Distractions come in the form of music, visits, little gifts. But whatever you do don’t tell George the time. He’s trying to beat 4 hours and 23 minutes.

I just can’t believe he’s been in that position for so long.

George is not a newbie when it comes to setting world records. The former Marine officer and now retired DEA agent holds seven world titles.

The Carlsbad resident is trying to raise money to benefit the Semper Fi fund for injured Marines.

[George Hood:]
They are my heroes, they really are, everyone of them.

As spectators gather to catch a glimpse of history.

He must have the strength of like – I don’t know, steel man.

George treats this as his war zone.

[George Hood:]
Well when you’re under such extreme duress, the body looks for any excuse to want to shut you down.

Fighting the good fight for those who have fought for our country.

[George Hood:]
But I can still walk. There are marines who come back from the fight with no feet, no toes.

His efficient crew has it dialed in, placing ice chips under his elbows and keeping him hydrated, excruciating discomfort for the sake of his beloved Marines.

[George Hood:]
This is the least I could do. And this discomfort I feel right now, pales in comparison to that which they’ve experienced on the battlefield, trust me when I tell you that.
