Hey guys, obviously, well now surprisingly, I’m getting a lot of questions about YouTube’s new firearms policy. So I thought I’d take just a moment to give you guys, I guess an update on what that is as it affects Forgotten Weapons.
Obviously there is the larger question of whether or not YouTube should be preemptively deciding what content is available on the platform and what isn’t. I obviously think it should not be. But that’s the large-scale issue at a much more sort of tactical level.
There is this major problem for myself and for other gun channels in trying to figure out exactly what the new policy means and how it will be implemented. It doesn’t go into effect for as of now of three or three-and-a-half more weeks. So you’re not going to see any immediate changes until that time. And we just don’t know exactly what’s meant by terms like accessories or what exactly they mean by videos intended to sell. And thus far we haven’t been able to get any good information back from YouTube on that which isn’t surprising. They’re traditionally been pretty much a black box.
This wouldn’t be such a big deal to me if it was about monetization of videos but it’s not the – the risk of guessing wrong on these new policies, it’s not your video gets demonetized, it is a channel strike and a couple of those mean that the whole channel gets deleted. And of course the policy is going to be applied retroactively. So I currently have about 1,400 videos in the back archive and going through those and trying to figure out which ones may or may not violate the new policy will be quite difficult.

So that’s the concern and the challenge ultimately through in-range TV Carl and I in particular have been – we’ve made a bit of a media splash as you may have noticed, we are really hoping that this brings enough publicity to the issue that YouTube decides to change its policy and doesn’t implement some of these issues or at least dramatically clarifies what they mean and limits their scope.
If that does happen, I am quite happy to remain on YouTube. I like it as a platform and it’s a huge draw. It’s a tremendous resource for everybody. Should that not happen and should YouTube decide that Forgotten Weapons content is no longer welcome on that site, I do have a couple of contingency plans in the works. Honestly they’re actually pretty exciting contingency plans that are at least one of them is probably going to happen regardless of what YouTube does.
And I am not going to – I’m going to announce those once they are fully completed and once we have a better idea of exactly what YouTube’s reaction is going to be and what their final policy is going to be.
So the good news is Forgotten Weapons will not be disappearing depending on what YouTube decides. It may or may not be able to continue to exist on YouTube, but it will absolutely exist somewhere else, it will be readily available, it will not necessarily be available through Pornhub.
I’ve gotten a number of contacts from people who are concerned about that. I understand those concerns. And well I think that isn’t an appropriate move for InRangeTV. It’s not something that fits with forgotten weapons so well. But don’t worry about it my contingency plans are independent of Pornhub.
So there’s cool stuff coming don’t worry about losing Forgotten Weapons because it’s not going anywhere. And when I have more news for you I’ll let you know.
Thanks very much for your continued support, and everybody’s help and interest.
