Hi, I’m Dweezil Zappa. I know my name sounds a little weird. I had trouble making collect phone calls as a child, trust me. Let me tell you a story about when I was a kid. I went into a shoe store and there was a kid in there who has bit of bully. He came up to me and says, what’s your name? I said, Dweezil. He said, that’s a stupid name. I said well, what’s your name? He said, Buns. So I immediately felt that my name was superior to Buns.
What? Oh, you should talk, your name is Merket. Some of you might know that I started off doing stuff on MTV. I made some of my own records and I’ve done some TV and some film stuff and maybe you are confused what do you really do? But really I play music. Yeah, people know that. I am going to make a new record and I wanted to be able to give everybody who might be interested a chance to be part of it right from the very beginning.
So I thought PledgeMusic would be the ultimate way to connect directly with the people that might be interested. The way you interact with your fans has changed. The way you get your music to a new audience has changed. It takes a lot of effort to make a record, it takes a lot of money to make the record. You have a culture where people will spend $4 on an app that makes a fart sound but they won’t buy a $0.99 song. That’s disgusting.
I like farts.
What came after then was I started doing a project that was important to me called Zappa Plays Zappa where I played my father’s music for a whole new audience, because I felt like his music was undiscovered and underappreciated for a long time.
I learned a lot in that process of learning his music, playing it for audiences around the world. I am now able to do things on guitar that I never thought I could ever do. I know there is a lot of people that are going to say, oh, he’s not like his dad, he is not going to play that stuff that way. I don’t even know, even if he can make his own music. Yeah, you have to be that dog. It hasn’t meant until now that I could take a moment to focus on my own music for a long time. And there has been a lot of people that have been asking, well, when are you going to make your own record? What’s that going to sound like? This one is the new metamorphosis, my own music for the first time in ten years.
Okay, yeah. I’ll tell them who’s going to be on the record, fine. I’m going to be working with Joe Barresi, he has worked with Queens of the Stone Age and Tool. I did some music by the Bulgarian Women’s Choir on Guitar, very strange little experiment. The musicians who are going to on this record are all from the Zappa Plays Zappa band. One of the songs, that song of record is the only collaboration I ever had a chance to do with my father where we co-wrote a song called, Dragon Master. And this version of it, is really heavy and funny.

That’s a very pointed question. Why I should spend money on this album? Despite Merket’s opposition to this whole idea, I am hoping that you will decide to join me on this musical journey. There’s access like you’ve never been able to have. This is a chance to be part of it from the very beginning. This is a place where the artists and the fans can connect. Thank you for watching and I hope to see you at the end of the line. That’s right. I think there will be people.
So cynical my friend, so cynical. Unbelievable.
