So, we’re probably about 40 miles from where the heaviest rain fell, 40 to 50 miles, and it takes a while for all that rain to accumulate and work its way down the wash.
What happens is the front of the flood as it’s working its way down, it starts to get clogged up with debris that’s in the wash. So you have dead trees, bushes, rocks, all kinds of stuff that wants to slow the front down.
As the front is slowing down, all the rain that fell has a chance to kind of accumulate near the front of the wash, the front of the floods as it’s coming down, because the front of the floods are going to be traveling in a little slower than the rest. So the front comes through by the time it hits where we are 40 miles south, as a pretty much of a debris flow for the first, depending on how clogged the wash is, it can be a debris flow for the first few minutes of the floor before it kind of turns into a more watery like substance. It’s quite the sight, and uh, and pretty sure that today we’re going to get a really nice flood.
[About 6 hours after heavy rain fell 40+ miles north of my location.]
Ooh! Wooo… alright that was intense! Okay. So, yeah, those things are dangerous? Amazing, actually. That was a dry wash, easily can kill me now.

That’s gotta weigh more than a ton.
I’ve never seen that in all the years I’ve been doing this.

So here, we are waiting again. Babe, say hi. That’s my wife. This is Wright. He is a flash flood chasing buddy. It’s coming around the bend here. There’s a black wall right up here. See if I can zoom in on that – up, cross focus.
Go babe. No, go.
