Amos Lee – Black River
For me songwriting is the art. And it doesn’t matter which artist it is really like if it’s somebody from John Prine to Dylan to you know, Johnnie Michelle or whatever. It’s I listen to the song first. If the song connects with me than the music. And the singing can actually go beyond that. We got like Donny Hathaway, incredible singer, one of my favorites but his repertoire and his arrangements just drove it – like drove it home for me. There was a lot more going on than Donny than the substances – I think there were other stuff going on that came through with the music, you know. He, that was his release that was the thing that is beautiful about music too. As much pain and struggling that an artist goes through they always have that and sometimes people go through the darker side because it gives them more light when they show what they – what they really love. ( background voice says: Kick it like a cricket. )
Woah, black river,
gonna take my cares away.
Woah, black river,
gonna take my cares away.
Gonna take my cares,
gonna carry my cares,
gonna take my care away.
Gonna take my cares,
gonna carry my cares,
gonna take my care away.
Woah, dear saviour,
gonna take my cares away.
Woah, dear saviour,
gonna take my cares away.
Gonna take my cares,
gonna carry my cares,
gonna take my care away.
Gonna take my cares,
gonna carry my cares,
gonna take my care away.
Woah, sweet whiskey boy,
c’mon,
gonna take my cares away.
Woah, sweet whiskey boy,
you’re gon,
you’re gonna take my cares away.
Gonna take my cares,
gonna carry my cares,
gonna take my care away.
Gonna take my cares,
gonna carry my cares,
gonna take my care away.
You’re gonna take my bottle, my bible, my mess.
You’re gonna take all of my empty and my lonelyness.
Gonna take all of the sadness inside of me,
gonna take it all and set me free.
Woah, black river,
gonna take my cares away.
