George Chuvalo – Canadian Boxing Legend
He’s a Canadian legend, a member of the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame. George Chuvalo is one of the most recognizable names in Canadian sports. He became an instant celebrity after going fifteen round with Muhamad Ali in 1966. Ali claims Chuvalo was his toughest opponent up to that time. Never in two decades in boxing did a fighter knock George Chuvalo down including Ali.
George Chuvalo says: ” It was probably the toughest fight of my career. No question in my mind the best heavy weight.
I ever fought – fastest. Not the hardest puncher I fought- but very quick very smart. Take a good lick and um ah and had a lot of courage. Ah, he was a good fighter he had everything but a big punch. A lot of times when they show clips, they usually show clips with him hitting me and they dont show me hitting him, you know, ha. And there were, there are some of those around”.
