A delivery driver in Danville claims a woman refused to let him into her home, because he’s black. He says, what hurts more is that his employer went along with it.
It’s a story you will only see here on ABC 13. Our Matt Ray has been investigating this for us, over the last week and has more in tonight’s top story. Matt?
Marcus Bradley says he has been an employee of Lowe’s Home improvement in Danville for 11 years, who is making his deliver rounds, as usual. When he says he got a call, saying to come back to the store, so he could be replaced by a white employee.
Driver Upset Over Honoring of Delivery Request
Marcus Bradley says last Monday was an ordinary day on the job, as a delivery driver for Lowe’s.
And then I got a phone call, over the phone telling me to bring the delivery back, saying that I couldn’t do the delivery.
He says, what he was told next shocked him.
I asked him why I couldn’t do and he’s says because you are black, and they don’t want you at their house.
Bradley says, he was told the customer specifically asked Lowe’s not to send a black delivery person. Alex Brook says he has worked with Bradley for nearly 11 years and that he was with him in the truck, when the call came in.

To me you know it just been right for a business that we work at to go on with the woman’s wishes.
Brook says that is exactly what happened, he says when the two returned to the store, Bradley was replaced by a white driver.
It was one of these things that all these guys will get over they are tough guys, you know. the delivery guys.. That’s kind of where I decided to put my foot down and say I couldn’t do with him.
We went to the home where the two said the deliver took place.
Well, I just want to know your side of the story, if it’s true or not?
I’ve got a right to get whatever I want and that’s it.
Do you feel bad about the delivery driver?
No, I don’t feel bad about nothing.
I mean, I thought that Lowe’s would take up from me.
Although Bradley is saddened by the way he says the situation was handled, he still plans to be at work tomorrow.
I mean I’ve got to work, I’m going to keep going work every day like I’ve always done.

But I will think that Lowe’s would take it into consideration and think about what they are doing next time.

We brought this to the attention of the Lowe’s corporate office, last week, and they said they will look into it. Today, we’ve received this statement: Diversity and inclusion is a core value at Lowe’s. The situation brought to our attention was troubling and an investigation was immediately undertaken. Under no circumstances should a discriminatory delivery request be honored, as it is inconsistent with our diversity and inclusion core values and the request should have been denied. The investigation has concluded and the individuals involved are no longer with the company.
I called the Danville Lowe’s this afternoon and was told the store manager has been replaced.
