On June 6, 2011, ARME received a call that 9 Beagles were released from a life of research inside a laboratory.

On Jun 8th, we rescued these dogs.

Hey guys, good to see you, how are you? Shannon, hi.

Hi, hi baby. Hi! Hi! Hi, sweetheart.

For you the sun will be shining
And I feel that when I’m with you
It’s all right I know it’s right

We are in the cargo van and everybody’s been loaded. And we are somewhere where we can run free for a minute.

[Eva Cassidy – Songbird]
To you I would give the world

Ah, just wants to be a pet so bad. Here we go, we’re gonna get you out of here.

Branded with a Federal ID Number tattooed in their ears, this is all they would be known by… until NOW….

For what’s about to be their first steps ever on the grass or outside, outside of a cage ever in their entire lives and they are all about 2 years old. So it’s very exciting. Should I start. Let’s do it.

And the songbirds keep singing
Like they know the score
And I love you I love you I love you
Like never before Like never before

These dogs have never stepped foot outdoors. They have never seen the sun nor felt the grass on their paws. They don’t know what to do.

Come on sweetheart.

Ten minutes later the first Beagle takes his first steps to freedom.

Oh look at that – come on big boy. Come on, big boy. (kisses) Yah! Yeah!!! Oh the first steps ever on the grass.

It seems like one comes and he encourages the other one to come.

Yeah—– yeah!!~~

One by one, the remaining Beagle leave their cages.

Ok.

Here we go honey. yeah yeah ..awwwwww.

Yeah.

I know they don’t know –

Yeah

He’s a boy

After the first taste of freedom, we had to pack up and head home for the six hour journey…

Here comes the sun, doo doo doo doo
Here comes the sun, and I say
It’s alright

Little darling
It’s been a long, cold, lonely winter
Little darling
It feels like years since it’s been here

Here comes the sun, doo doo doo doo
Here comes the sun, and I say
It’s alright

We couldn’t resist letting each one out of their crates to cuddle and explore in the cargo van on the way home…
