Amos Lee – Truth
Amos Lee – Truth
[Amos Lee Talking]
Oh Ya, I just miss songs today, I just miss songs today, I feel that a lot of the pop songs are not really being delivered. Even if you, go far back like, you know 20′s or 30′s or whatever, the Jazz Music of the popular music of that day, those are incredible songs in the past like twenty years a lot of the best lyrics and words have been written by hip hop artists. From my ears and my heart I just like a good song. When I got out of college I was studying in South Carolina and ah, I really didn’t consider music as a career option for me cause I started pretty late so I was thinking how I was gonna make a living and all. And I decided what I was gonna do was teach school, so I got my degree in English and went and got a job in North Philadelphia teaching kids literacy and reading and I started to go to open mic’s towards the end of the school year cause I was pretty frustrated in what I was doing and I didn’t feel like I was connecting with the kids in a strong enough way I didn’t really feel like I was helping them to be educated – I was being more of a babysitter and I didn’t really like that so I started to go to open mic’s with a bunch of people I was friends with and something resonated inside of me about music and then and like how powerful it was in my life – more power than I thought it was. And ah, so I decide to give up teaching for a couple of years and pursue music and try to do it professionally – pay the bills with it and ah, and that’s pretty much where I am now.
Well my woman, she showed up
With your number on her hand
Well I thought that I might call you up
So we could deal with this man to man
You better tell me the truth son, yeah
Well he showed up down at the ballroom
Walking slow and acting strong
Well I said my friend I’ll give you one last chance
To admit that you done me wrong
You better tell me the truth son, yeah
You better tell me the truth son, yeah
Now they got me here in the county
With his blood still on my face
Well the boys in blue they don’t play no game
All the sheriff said to me was this:
You better tell me the truth, son
I’ma beat it out of you
You better tell me the truth, son
I’ma beat it out of you
Now they got me here in the lockdown
For a crime I did commit
Well for my last call
I called the number on my girl’s hand
To remind you not to forget
You should’a told me the truth, son
Make me beat it out of you
You should’a told me the truth, son
Make me beat it out of you
You should’a tole me the truth, son
Oh…
Make me beat it outta you
Make me beat it outta you
Make me beat it
Make me beat it
Make me beat it
Make me beat it out of you
